I wanted to add one more thing to seal the deal:

IF YOU LOSE CUSTOMERS BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE PRO TOOLS IT'S NOT BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE PRO TOOLS. IT'S BECAUSE THE FINAL MIX ON THE CD YOU GAVE THEM REALLY SUCKS. PRO TOOLS WILL NOT HELP A SHITTY ENGINEER MAKE PLATINUM ALBULMS. SAME GOES FOR ALL SOFTWARE.

Let me rephrase that.

WORTHWHILE, PAYING clients who have true musical potential to rock the crowd consistently usually pay to use Pro Tools because they listen to the radio, any CD, any movie, any DVD and they hear what it can do.

Furthermore, they have SEEN engineers do AMAZING shit with Pro Tools that no other system can do as easily. They also HEARD the results and trust me, if you used a Pro Tools system well(key word being WELL) then you would know exactly what i am talking about.

I feel for you forum junkies, i used to have Pro Tools envy too, until I made a phat mix with it.

And if, you do get a client who just wants to "see" Pro Tools and not know what it does then consider the following:

1) These types of clients can be tricked into thinking ANYTHING about your gear-just give them the gear talk and convince them you are a "world class pro engineer" and they will go back to playing and you, recording.

2)They most likely dont have any money due to the fact that they have done no research and therefore sell no albulms and/or rock no/extremely small crowds, so they dont need Pro Tools anyway, cause they sound like shit and dont need heavy editing, because it wont help.

3)Dont take clients who dont understnd studio ethics or the first thing about recording equipment-It's much more of a hassle. If you really must take these ignorant morons as your bread and butter, then at least let them know a little bit about the bells and whistles of gear, how it works, why pro tools etc. I suggest charging for the info too, like a lawyer or a mechanic who gives you a repair estimate.

Ok and finally, I hate to say this awful truth, but PCS ARE FASTER THAN MACS. PC/OPTERON SYSTEMS CAN NOW HOLD UP TO 4 CPUS ON ONE MOTHERBOARD WITH OVER 16 GBS OR RAM AND 16 TERABYTES OF VIRTUAL MEMORY. LATER THIS YEAR PCS WILL BE COMING OUT WITH "DUAL CORE " CHIPS THAT CONTAIN 2 CPU PROCESSORS ON ONE CHIP! ADD FOUR OF THOSE ON A MOTHER BOARD AND YOU HAVE THE POWER OF 8 CPUS, PLUS OVER 16 GIGABYTES OF RAM (4 GIGS FOR EACH CHIP) AND OVER 16 TERABYTES OF VIRTUAL MEMORY. ADD TO THAT DUAL 74 GB "RAPTOR" DRIVE WHICH DOES 10000RPMS ON A SERIAL ATA 150 CABLE (WITH NO SCSI CARD NEEDED AND THEY HAVE MAX SUSTAINED DATA RATES OF OVER 74MB PER SEC!) AND YOU HAVE A MEAN SYSTEM. YOU WONT EVEN NEED RAID!

We have both a top of the line G5 and top of the line PC here at our studio. (actually we have many more pcs) Guess what? Our PC runs quieter, faster, is more compatible with programs, has more programs, can do more, is more tweakable, scalable, useable, runs pro tools faster, and is CHEAPER!

When it comes to computers, dont go with stupidity. Microsoft may be a bitch, but i'd rather deal with evil that stupidity any day when it comes to computers-just look at the internet!

Oh and if you dont like Microsoft, then dont use the internet cause they designed the damn thing so that it can be easily used by you forum junkies.

One final Mac bash:

Dont use hardware from a company who constantly goes bankrupt.
Yes, tht's right MAC hs a long history of hidden bankruptcy.

As does REAL PLAYER.

I respectfully disagree with you on this last paragraph. Have you ever listen to America FM radio lately? Or watch MTV or MTV2 sometimes?

There is a good number of examples of lousy music that were made with Pro-Tools (beside the worst tracks with Britney Spears or Madonna).

Pro-Tools is not only good for people of honesty (OutKast, Black Eye Peas, etc.) but also of people who can cheat a little (BT).

And I deeply sorry, but I know a good number of people here in the Dirty South that can use Pro-Tools as lousy engineers but can still get over on the public (and make quick money from this garbage). Just listen to New Orleans bounce music, Houston screw music, or Atlanta crunk music to see/hear exactly what I mean.

I am appalled by the limit of this forum's imagination.

Music is sound and it can be decorated in any way.

whatever rocks the crowd-if you think your music is better than britney spears that' just one opinion. Make sure you can rock the crowd with it so that you have other opinions backing you up.

I did a britney spear remix into hard ass jungle drum and bass and the crowd fucken loved it and i loved it too and i played in death metal/new york hardcore bnds for years as a drummer, produce underground hiphop like cannibal ox type shit and spin hrd ass drum and bass with some neuro funk.

In fact i bet there are pieces of britney spears beats that rock your music anyday-although she is a complete idiot i agree.

Post a link to your music and let's hear your music that beats MTV, MTV2 or brittney spears like you said. Put your money where your mouth is. I'll play it for the crowd at the club tonite and we'll see what the reaction is to your music.

If you look at his stats he's from Los Angeles. If you grew up here like I did you'd realize he's quite tame by LA standards!!
