Is Sonarworks necessary/worth it?

I was using Sonarworks headphones edition, I think the curve it is for is pretty good - but I think it does veil the sound to a degree.

A guy on GS (b0se) recommended using Crave EQ and an oratory EQ curve from here:

The targeted curve is also pretty good, and for my headphones dt1990, it sorts out a 'high end detail' bump at around 8k and gives a really nice sound.

I think Sonarworks will give a good result, but for me using Crave EQ with a good correction curve is just a bit more pleasant to listen to while working. (and it's a really decent plugin to have(

I've been using this after Waves Abbey Road Studios, which for me gives a really good spatial view into the sound, and has multiple speakers built in to help mix decisions.

NB: Like with all of these things you still need to listen to and learn a new setup for 'translation'. And if I have been listening without the correction curve on my headphones, after switching it in it can sound a bit odd and take 15-20 mins for me to adjust before I feel it sounds 'just right'.

I have Waves Nx Ocean Way, Realphones (demo) and Sienna (packs A and C). My Headphone is a Sony 7506 and my vote goes to Sienna. I even use it systemwide through EqAPO. Second place to Realphones, but with just the generic correction, I don't like the one they did for my model... I may even purchase the lite version

But as far as I can tell, the ones you list are completely different from Sonarworks. You're listing room-emulations. Sonarworks is applying EQ to flatten the frequency curve, not much else. Anyway - I couldn't live without Sonarworks, especially the studio edition, but really both. The difference is massive..
