Indeed. Seems to have had a resurgence as a 'thing'

A physical manifestation of your purchase. Which I get, I get a bit nostalgic for the days of buying Xpressway or Shrimper tapes in the 80s/90s, only true way to hear Dead C etc etc. But then I look at that pile of tapes rotting in the shed that I really should digitise and just praise be for downloads.

I'd love some NIN and old Green Day on tape.

Will there ever be a revival as vinyl has done?
I my first CD burner cost $50,000 Had I waited 6 years it would have only cost $1000

$50k? You're serious? Was that in like... 1989?

I used to use Audiograbber for ripping cds, didn't use it for years now however.

Europeans use a comma for a decimal point. Weird to us, but at least it makes the rest of us look silly. :hihi:
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

PowerIso works flawlessly for me. But it only supports processing 300MB of data each time with the unregistered version. FreeRIP also a good alternative, although you still need to pay for its full feature.

Cassette production is cheap, available, and fast. The resurgence of vinyl has ironically made it a lot more difficult for small indies because the capacity for manufacturing hasn't changed and major labels monopolise it. Particularly at this time of year when Record Store Day is coming up. I'm seeing so many releases where the digital is available to buy but the vinyl is 4-months-plus away. It was bad enough in the early 10s when I was last involved but things seem to have got significantly worse since.

I have more than 1200 CDs but these days they just sit in boxes in my garage. I've ripped most of them but I keep buying more because there is still plenty of old, more obscure stuff you can't get digitally. I rarely listen to CDs, although when I do they sound noticeably better than the mp3 versions of the same songs, even though most of my mp3s are 320kb/s. I think of my CDs as a collection, whereas digital music is just a folder full of files and I don't have any more attachment to them than I do a folder full of invoices.

For ripping I used to use Zune but Microsoft have hollowed it out to the point that it's too much hassle, so I've gone back to WMP and it works fine.

Been using Exact Audio Copy recently, found it to be pretty good. Does need a little bit of work to get it setup, but on the other hand is highly configurable

Handy guide from tech radar on setting it up

Found out about it on tech radar too on this article, which discusses quite different options

For tagging and data for mp3's I'd highly recommend
