I only bought it because they said they hadn't forgotten! :x

I'll see 'em in court.
Until forever fades away.

Right, time to dust down the insane wish list I've had for this.

1. Can turn audio loops into named one shots and midi, then back into audio loops.
2. Can swap any kit part from a loop with another.
3. Auto-assigns kit parts from a loop into a mixer with fx.
4. Huge sampled kit part database, but also a percussive synth engine.
5. Dynamic database of grooves with a touch of AI to generate unique results
6. An equivalent of Toontrack's Tap2Find
7. An equivalent of Toontrack's song creator for endless variations
8. Deep integration with Omnisphere 2.9 / Trilian 1.7 to lock rhythm parts with the arp with perfect feel
9. A tag browser (kinda obvious but thought I should add it for completeness)

And here's what I don't want...

1. Multi-miced drum kits. Keep this primarily as a beats player.
2. A grid editor, but can export to DAW and back again.

That'll do. It should be musically inspiring, fun, begging experimentation but not fussy or techy. After 15 years, anything less than totally revolutionary and unlike anything else on the market will, of course, be a crushing disappointment.

Note: Spectrasonics are not listed in the NAMM 2024 exhibitors. Closest is Ilio, one of their distributors.

10. Ability to navigate the browser (Suites and Elements areas) using computer keyboard arrow keys.

We can only wait and watch.

Well I genuinely thought we'd have heard something by now.

What else could be behind moving Sylus to a legacy area? The worst answer is that they are stopping any development or support. Think we need answer to that - I might drop their support a line.

Last thing they released for Omnisphere was the Twisted Trees extension back in early 2023. Think they released a felt piano for Keyscape shortly after that. But that's pretty much it. I'm still waiting for more hardware profiles to be added to Omnisphere like they said they would - it's been a really looooong time though. I wonder what's going on with them.

As always they take long to do stuff and they do it very very quietly.

It's a bit annoying how slowly Spectrasonics work, but it's not like they would intentionally not release stuff, as they would be the ones to benefit the most from a Stylus RMX2. But I find it a bit bewildering that they seem to have a decent sized team, yet release updates decades apart when there is certainly a market for them. I can say without even trying it that if a Stylus successor came out, which was an all-in one drum loops and kits plugin, I'd buy it immediately. Their sampling is just second to none.

I'm also a bit surprised given the use of Omnisphere in Cinematic music and scoring, that they haven't officially supported MPE yet, as there is probably a lot of interest there. I know that film scorers do tend to like mpe devices for the expressivity and many are Omnisphere users. Would have thought Spectrasonics would have jumped on that. Although they aren't always leading the pack with respect to technology. I still remember when they claimed windows multi-touch support in a presentation (for v1.5 maybe), which was made up. Never was multi-touch compatible. They were literally saying that Omnisphere worked on Windows monitors (like every vst plugin in existence) haha. Took a while to get things like VST3 and window resizing, and about a decade to fix the windows UI sluggishness bug.

So yeah it's shocking how long it's taking for RMX2 (or whatever the replacements will be), but it will be something they will brag about, like when they released Keyscape. "We've been working on this for 20 years!" That's not something to brag about! You're sampling stuff!

Just sold RMX and Omnisphere here in the "sell & buy" forum section less than two weeks ago. I feel sorry for the buyers... :(

Why?
Of course second hand buyers never get the same benefits as first hand buyers with Spectrasonics.
But all their products in their Legacy have been replaced with better updated versions and there was an Omnisphere update within the last two weeks (actually all of them got updated I think).
There is no reason to think it isn't business as usual with Spectrasonics. Unless you know something I don't.

Well, until now - RMX is legacy with no replacement. As yet. That's why it is such a noteworthy move. I've emailed support to get the official line here.

But the broader point - absolutely. The last Omni update was manna from heaven for Windows users who have had slow GUIs. And their feature updates have been stellar for many, many years.

Even working on their geological timescales It sure feels time for something new, but that's never been a good predictor in the past. I think a few of us were slightly underwhelmed with the last Twisted Trees sonic expansion - not that it wasn't good and creative, but it wasn't as day-to-day useable as the others imo.

Because I sold them NOT as "legacy products", only NFR software, yet enduring and updatable in the years to come.

I had similar feelings years ago: bought Alchemy second hand. Two months later got the news about Camel Audio closing down and bye bye... OK, not WW3... It is annoying though.

Omnisphere (unless you mean Omnisphere 1) is not Legacy currently.
