Tj Shredder wrote: Tue Mar 23, 2021 4:11 pm I use a sequencer with unlimited steps and all the features you are after. Its not a VST, but thats not a problem, because its my DAW. In my case its called Bitwig, but I bet most DAWs can do that as well. I mean even Protools can deal (limited) with Midi...
But maybe that is too much creative freedom?
Bitwig is pretty special in that case, but I don't think it's the same thing as creative flow. It's usually the technicalities that bog down the creative process. A device that handles all that for you quickly and in the moment, would be a pretty special device in the right hands.
That's true, sometimes, well not sometimes, always for musicians is better to have their tools with everything you need and with the less time needed to configure, just like a "Plug-and-play". Now, it's true that the easier and quicker the better, but that's on a general view, if we see it from a more "personal" way, we'll see that not everything works the same for everyone, for example (thing that happens to me) a friend and i use FL Studio 20 with the same hip hop style and we all use stutter processors, FL comes with the Gross Beat and it's a 100% plug and play but it's just not what i like and using it makes my workflow less efective so i use Tantra or Gatekeeper, in the other hand, my friend loves Gross Beat and uses it all the time and makes his workflow amazingly quicker but he can't use none of my tools because will take a lot of time for him.

Now, you are totally right and this is where the answer to this thread comes over: There's a really big hole, and yes, it NEEDS to be filed. But there's something that in my opinion is what makes that hole real: For a developer is incredibly hard to make a product that can satisfy everyone, and doing it requires a big investment of time, money, effort and skills that only a few have. Those few are companies like Pro Tools, AIR Music, and UJAM and others, who have behind them groups of brilliant minds with experience of years and amazing skills that combined make their products something outstanding from everything else, where the time and the money invested on them is much bigger than we think, but not everyone can give themselves that pleasure or simple they don't want to.

We've been on times where the marketing and the money is the king, and can move the direction of everything (as a prove of that we have the famous GM module from Kawai, the GMega that was retired from the market because it caused other products from them to lose sales), and it's been the reason of why the audio products has been kind if "incomplete" and at the same time there's an offer for everything, but i know that will change soon.

If I am in a creative flow I try to achieve my idea with the tools I have and often enough I can do it. If I could only envision a solution with a non existing plugin the flow is stopped as the plugin doesn’t exist...
I just wanted to point out, that creativity is about looking for other paths than the ones you know already to achieve what you are looking for...

Me personally, I like options, in fact I enjoy them. Life would be pretty boring and stale being stuck in the same routine and rut. So new unique and creative tools are always welcomed additions to an artist's palette, but not required. Sometimes you find things you weren't looking for, happy accidents they call them...
