Miroslav kinda works like a late 90s rompler with a lot more data, and not like a modern orchestral library. The samples are better than the engine.

Yeah, besides opinions on the quality of samples, the interface leaves a lot to be desired. So does EWQL's for that matter, although I hear it's improved a bit.
It's one of, if not the first orchestral kinda library, starting out in 1993 with CDs, seems like AKAI, adapted to Gigasampler in the early 'oughts.
- as to opinions, I was personally disappointed in '03 that a top-flight musician like Miroslav Vitous' name would be fronting a product that wasn't a lot better (albeit I only had demo mp3s to base that on).
The goal back in 2003 when I really got started with this (Gigastudio by then) was VSL same as it ever was, for the 'state-of-the-art'.

Well, Nucleus Lite was a great suggestion. String tones are as personal as piano ones, and I really like the sound that comes out. Tempted by Areia lite too in time, but don't want to rush things. Likewise, Best Service The Orchestra Essentials offers something different I like the idea of, but will hold off for now for the same reasons. Once the Big Bang Orchestra goes iLok, I'll be sure to take advantage of a great freebie, too.

Ensembles only, no solo instruments. For $99 that still aint bad-! But worth pointing out IMO.yellowmix wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 9:39 am Nucleus Lite Edition, $99: https://www.audioimperia.com/collection ... te-edition
It's easily worth that and may be fine for your needs. I almost bought it myself. No it isn't the very best thing around today by any means, but so what? Judge it on its own merits. Should I forego buying a Shure SM58 mic because it's not a Neumann? Please. I wouldn't want to compose classical music with it, but how many people does that describe now days?jneudorf wrote: Thu Sep 09, 2021 9:39 pm I just bought Miroslav Philharmonik 2 CE, and am curious how bad people think it is, compared to state-of-the-art. leo007 was selling it for $45, and I wanted to get in on the IK Group Buy.
BBCSO has a lot of fans, has a good sound, but mixed reviews on how easy it is to use/get the best sounds out of (excluding Discover, which is easy but extremely limited).
EastWest's stuff also has a notoriously difficult learning curve FYI.
I would also check out Sonuscores' Amadeus. Very user-friendly interface, IMO sounds very nice, and includes a totally comprehensive set of solo instruments as well. For only $149.
