hm - I stacked two of them in cascade on a mix and I think I may have found a sweetspot settings.

please consider L/R sidechain option.

hiya bmanic! i'm so glad that you like it. i've read a few of your reviews a while back, and it seems to me that you have very discriminating tastes. so if i've managed to please your ears, well, then... 8)

without "tipping my hand" too much... i do have another project going with a special focus on "parallel compression." personally, i am a big fan of parallel compression--in a mastering situation. i'm particularly enamoured with a certain de-esser/limiter that is a mainstay in most top mastering studios. and that is all i will say on that project... ;)

as for Vanilla... i always considered it more of a track compressor, and i was trying not to add too much functionality, to maintain simplicity. lots of knobs look scary to some people. on the other hand, it would be dead simple to implement. so i'll think about it...

thanks for trying out the Vanilla Comp. and also thanks to mauseoleum for testing the new build. i'm glad you like it. i'm still thinking about how to go about "intelligent makeup gain matching" for you--the work never stops! :)

question: what would the output be with this method? would it be mono out, with one side being used purely as a sidechain input? or would it be stereo out, and just keying off one side? personally, i don't use sidechaining (meaning, keying off a source other than the input), so i don't know what the most practical solution would be. but i'm assuming that one would not want the sidechain signal at the output, so i'm guessing that this would have to be mono only. perhaps this would warrant a special sidechain version of Vanilla Comp, to be packaged with the stereo version. i'll think about this...

you could have a 2 stereo input/1 stereo output version of the plugin, but using left and right as mono signal/sidechain would probably be more convenient for most people. You could pass the sidechain through as well if you wanted, but most people would probably prefer you didn't ;)

thanks glurgle. i'm on it! expect a new build sometime soon.

I used to be gentle but now with my new monitors I just can't help but be cruel to developers. You're safe so far.. but it never lasts long *insert insane evil laugh here* :P

I also played around with it a bit more and i am really impressed with it - seems to work well on every kind of material and is absolutely on paar with Golden Compressor (if one ignores its Golden Gui while listening, of course)

You got a customer here !
Any news on GUI, prices, release date :hihi: ?

well citizenchunk if you are in quest for a efficient gui, I'd suggest you contact PJ at e-phonic ( www.e-phonic.com ): namely he made a simple compressor called x-pressor some time ago and I extremely liked how the controls were layed out - and dll size was minimal, too.

They are Genelec 8030a and I've also got the matching 7050a subwoofer for them.

I had the 1029's before. I'll give you a hint: YOU MUST BUY THE NEW MODEL!!!! :D

The 1029's are shitty monitors especially if you don't have a subwoofer. Extremely thin nasty high mids and high frequencies. The stereo image, depth perspective (amplitude) and overall tonality of the new models are far superior to the old design. I had to pay about 100 euros in between to get the new models and it's worth so much more. Sell the old ones NOW untill the whole world has realized that the 8030 is so much better coz once they do (and they will) you're stuck with those.

After a whole summer of use on the 8030a's I can happily say that it's the best purchase that I've EVER made.

Cheers!

ja ... don't think i'll sell those. i know them and i have no plans for editing other than multimedia in foreseable future. if i buy new set, i'll probably (if) when i move. can't really think of such things now, because i haven't got payed for y2003 yet. < joke > and they'll make even better models then so it'll be worth waiting < /joke >
