apoclypse wrote: Tue Jan 11, 2022 4:29 pm You know a lot of people have been waiting for automation on the Mastering Page and the addition of the Listen Bus. The former has been a request since version 2 if not before. You know there are more than just producers using Studio One, it has a whole mixing and mastering user base that need features too.
Of course... but I doubt they are the vast majority...

Now it depends what 5.5 brings additionally on the table... if these are the only important features this update brings I have to say this is a completely flop... niche groups shall have their updates too but they are still...niche groups... so an important update like a .5 may not just focus on them and piss all the "normal" users off...
There has to be a balance imho... especially if I want to keep alive something like Sphere...
It doesn't matter if they are the majority. The Mastering Page is a major feature of S1 and has been see since the beginning of the software. I know everyone has this myopic view of what a DAW is and "producers" think they are the end all be all of DAW users, but let's put things in perspective. S1 is still primarily a tape based DAW, Presonus is still primarily a live sound hardware maker, and Studio One's main market at some point was ProTools users who were defecting and still is for the most part.

Like I've pointed out Presonus has done updates this way since at least 2.x. They do one for the composers/producers and one for the mixing/mastering users. If you don't know that by now, you haven't been paying attention.

It's a free update and StudioOne updates and goes on sale alot . Good VST Host .

If this update is all about mastering, I don't see anything to complain about. It's an important part of what DAW's are supposed to do. Might not be very exciting to the ones of use who aren't mastering mainly, but...

Yeah, S1 has always targeted the disgruntled Pro Tools market, which is mostly engineers. Production features are nice though.

Can't believe how the people in the video's chat freak out every time the music changes, and they think the actual presentation starts.

Usually you need to provide free beer for that.

Really? It always seemed to me like the popular move was from Sonar and Cubase to Studio One. I was a pretty regular user of Sonar and PT, and an occasional Cubase user, for a while and I don't really recall S1 being mentioned much among PT users, but it was a pretty common subject on the Cakewalk and Steinberg forums. I also recall a lot of the Sonar regulars appearing on the S1 forums. I'm not doubting you, but it never occurred to me that many PT users were jumping ship to S1.

You're right. Studio One almost certainly cannibalized SONAR more than any other DAW.

Lots of Pro Tools users use that DAW for post production, an area where Studio one is... not very competitive.

Studio One only just became decently usable for composition and film work in v5, and they didn't even bother adding a video track. Cubase users were never defecting en masses. They were still crashing Steinberg servers every time an update/upgrade released.

I don't really need updates to a project page that is [still] worse than my old copy of Samplitude Pro X4 Suite. Other things were more important.

"Notifications for Nothing" are annoying. Blocking me in return is a good way to avoid this.

That depends on what ProTool is used for. I've seen a lot of mixing houses (mixing music) move over to S1, but not a lot a post houses (movies, films etc). S1 is well suited for that but doesn't have surround sound capability or anything like that to make it a true competitor for post production. S1 needs a lot of work in that regard, but for mixing I've seen a lot of studios move away from ProTools for mixing bands, etc.

Anyway the presentation is over and there are some cool non mixing stuff added in there, like strums, chord stacking etc.

Meh .... Great DAW though .

Will the majority of people ever be happy with any update of any DAW? Seriously wondering..

It would be cool to see Studio One focus a bit more on features for composing for film, as well as surround. Until then we are stuck with Cubendo and Pro Tools.

That said, not a huge update but strum and chords are nice additions to MIDI.
