Just different tools.
I have used Valhalla vintage verb for years and love it. It doesn't have to sound exaggerated at all.
Set the mid Freq build up to take out some low/upper-mids, e.g 0.25 X 600hz , set it to present mode and raise the high shelf and you have yourself a very clear reverb.
Thinking about pre/post filtering and getting the levels right helps enormously as well, as well as knowing your tools well, knowing how they respond to different sounds, if they saturate, which modes sound like what.
Vintage verb is a deep plugin and can do a wide array of sounds.
I tried some of the EA ones a while ago and really liked them.
I think if your not feeling comfortable with reverbs, as the OP mentioned. It's as, if not more important to spend some time experimenting sending sounds into reverbs, messing with levels, pre/post filtering, different algos and getting a feel for the different tones you can get.
Reverbs sitting well are about the whole mix, not just the reverb plugin. Ofc you don't want to be fighting the plugins sound.
Post back and let ppl know what you went with and how it helps etc.

No, it's because you wrote stuff that is patently false, which you would be aware of if you were really familiar with the products you happily slagged of.

And just to make sure: that goes even more os in the light of you have it compared to the EA reverbs in the same quote:
Neither R2/R4 nor Phoenix/Nimbus can sound nearly as clean as Valhalla Vintage Verb. And that is not an opinion, it is a fact.
chk071 wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 1:36 pm I think Exponential Audio is a level higher than Valhalla in terms of sound quality. All the Valhalla reverbs are kind of exaggerated in what they do as well. Vintage Verb is super dirty/artefact-y, Room is extra clean. Very overrated plugins, especially on this forum.
There, you asked for opinions.

Oh come on you two. I'll bang your heads together if you don't stop. Dunno why people get all defensive about reverbs. They're the same as synths - they don't have to be bad to dislike them. "I like mine more than yours so it must be better ner ner ne ner ner!" Just because both of you don't like a particualr reverb doesn't make either of them bad per se. Just not to your taste. I fuckin' hate Moogs but I'm mature enough to accept that they're actually quality products.

It isn't and everyone with one ear and half a brain can easily verify that for himself, so I must assume that you did not really try the products you were talking about very thoroughly at all.
Shall I post examples to embarass you further?

It's not a matter of taste. I have no problem with that at all! I challenge you to find a quote of mine where I ever criticized someone for liking or not diskliking this or that. You won't find any. I am just not that kind of guy. A matter of taste is imo not something worth much of a discussion at all.kritikon wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 9:56 am Just because both of you don't like a particualr reverb doesn't make either of them bad per se.
But I guess I have a relaitvely strong sense of justness. And it just isn't fair to slag off something by posting negative stuff that is completely false.

What is false and unfair? Saying a reverb isn't the same league as others? No, it isn't. You're just an over sensitive crybaby, as usual.jens wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 10:18 am But I guess I have a relaitvely strong sense of justness. How did the communication get wrecked like this?
You avoid facts on purpose -
I correct you, you keep avoinding the facts,
I correct you again and again you avoid the facts.
One last time ('kay, I will reiterate it a few times, maybe simpler sentences work better for you):
One of your false claims was that Valhalla Vintage Reverb is overly dirty.
I corrrected you, explaining that you need to switch it to the "Now" mode and it is not dirty at all anymore, but instead very clean (of cxourse this also depends) on the chosen algortihm)

Again: your false claim - Valhalla Vintage is dirty
Answer: wrong - you must switch to Now, not dirty at all

YOUR CLAIM VINTAGE DIRTY
BUT NOT DIRTY IF SET NOW
UNDER STAND???
NOW NOT DIRTY! - YOU WRONG! - YOU NOT KNOW VALHALLA VINTAGE! - SO YOU NOT SAY YOU DO! IS NOT RIGHT!
Let's see if you get it now. But my guess it you don't because it apears you are 100% set on ignoring the facts.

The first time I mentioned the three modes you could have replied with something along the lines of:
"Dang! I completely missed this. Yes, if set to Now it is very clean indeed - my bad!"
But instead you switched yourself into denial mode.
And it is a similar story with Valhalla Room.

well, they still sell the 'hardware ports' that they did (LXP, MXP, PCM), but they've not released anything subsequent.
which isnt really a big surprise, given that Michael Carnes, who probably designed half that hardware, and did the plugins, left and founded Exponential Audio.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

As far as i know the NOW switch adds some brightness. It doesn't it make the reverb cleaner.jens wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:34 pmNo, I explained that in detail - twice at least - you obviously cacan read, so what's the problem here?chk071 wrote: Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:20 pm
