Oh for sure, lets get things out in the open, I will 100% be buying more plug-ins, and that's before we talk about my new crack, Kontakt instruments. I'd just like to spend my money better for my purposes. I should have stated I do EDM, trance, techno and maybe some more ambient cinematic stuff etc.Shabdahbriah wrote: Sat Aug 20, 2022 11:51 pm ^^^ Yep. A totally transparent ploy to be given more options.
I actually went for a few years buying just about nothing at all (ok if we exclude hardware synths and monitors) But recently I've lost the plot. The summer sales hit me hard. For example, reverbs. I am a mega reverb nut. I have the NI reverbs, Valhalla, Relab, 2CAudio, Seventh Heaven Pro, Blackhole, Exponential Audio, Reverberate 3, EOS 2, and god knows what else that I've forgotten about. I feel a bit embarrassed recalling how many plugins I actually have in this one category alone. Recently however, I thought about it carefully and bought Cinematic Rooms Pro and Tai Chi. I am certain now that I can just use these two for everything, and maybe even just Cinematic Rooms.
I pretty much stopped going on forums for a long while, but lately I've been in the effects forum here a lot. I'm trying to simplify everything I have to just have a couple of plug-ins for each category that I completely love and do the trick every time. The subtleties of all the vintage stuff are lost on my music anyway, it just needs to sound great and be totally versatile for what I'm doing.
Pretty much settled on delays I think, Replica XT, Modnetic, some 201 emulations, and Eventide H3000 for multi-tap delays and I'm really happy with all these options.
For saturation/distortion I'm really happy with Elysia Karacter, though I didn't like it at all years ago when I first demoed it, I've learned a lot since then. I've demoed just about everything else out there and I'm really happy with this for just about everything (though I like Kelvin a lot)
Compressor and EQ though I don't know. Elysia Museq is perfect in sound, but I don't like the interface, it's pretty small and it would be nice to have a visualizer, and it's not ideal for surgical stuff. I liked Weiss EQ a lot, the smaller one. But I want to avoid latency as much as possible too.
Vertigo VSC-3 is perhaps the choice I could make, maybe that and Unisum and call it a day, but I don't own either of them right now.
I am thinking out loud and just crowd sourcing some suggestions and stuff here, but I think that can make for some pretty cool threads, I dunno, what else is there to talk about in the effects forum right?
Oh and as for compressors I already own? That list is probably longer.
PS I also did this thread to be open to anyone else in this situation.

Ever considered doing another soundbank for Spire? I know it's a fairly old synth by software standards but they seem to be doing exceptionally well going by their website and store. There's a couple of new reverb modes added recently that sound great, among some other stuff.

Yes actually I think about that a couple times a week. I was planning to start work on that or Serum after my next release, but I've already done a lot for Serum so yeah I think Spire deserves another go after everything I've learned since my last one, which was what 2017? Long time ago now.machine_spirit wrote: Sun Aug 21, 2022 12:19 amEver considered doing another soundbank for Spire? At some point I was buying too many synths with very similar features. Just because they were new and shiny. That didn't work, because I was wasting my time choosing the suitable one for a song. In addition, those synths were very advanced too, basically multiplying the waste of time. Once I brought the amount to three synths, the progress was very prominent. Same goes for effects.... apart from reverbs...and lo-fi effects ...and comps... oh nooo

Maybe it'll help if you tell the thread about times you bought plugins then forgot you had them or never used them? I have alot of those - especially if they have a weird name I can't remember.

I just bought Spire recently because i thought I had sold it a while back. Turned out I still had it and didn't even know it. Luckily they let me return the extra copy.BigSneezy wrote: Sun Aug 21, 2022 2:15 am Maybe it'll help if you tell the thread about times you bought plugins then forgot you had them or never used them? I haven't bought anything in a long time until recently honestly. I was taking a break from music but once I got back I went pretty nuts.
I have seen threads like this here for a very long time. Seems a lot of people have trouble controlling themselves. As long as you are not spending money you can't afford to spend it is all good. But if you are spending money you shouldn't then it is a really serious problem. I would find a place like Debtors Anonymous

I seriously did similar a few days ago. It was an Audio Assault Crown Amp sim. I was waiting for a sale to buy it and I got the email. I went to install it and it said the folder already exists. Turns out I'd already bought it but forgotten. Now I have it twice. Luckily Audio Assualt makes inexpensive amp sims.

I was buying a lot of records a while back and did the same thing with those. The good thing is most of those records I bought went up in value unlike plugins.BigSneezy wrote: Sun Aug 21, 2022 4:39 amI seriously did similar a few days ago. don't get sucked into buying lots of Kontakt instruments, dont visit VI-Control for information, they love everything. If you have Falcon something like their World Instruments , Orchestral Suite and IRCAM Solo instruments will cover everything you could possibly want when combined with your fx and the capabilities of Falcon. If Kontakt only then Soniccouture and get when on special. Then if you need anything else like some specific Brass or percussion only buy it on special. Of course depends on the music you make but the principal is clear - DOnt get sucked in to buy lots of okay libraries, a few high end ones will save you money in the long run. Get them and really get to know them before getting something elseAiynzahev wrote: Sun Aug 21, 2022 12:06 amOh for sure, lets get things out in the open, I will 100% be buying more plug-ins, and that's before we talk about my new crack, Kontakt instruments. Good advice. I used to always wish I could start over with all the money I spent (wasted).fairlyclose wrote: Sun Aug 21, 2022 4:47 amdon't get sucked into buying lots of Kontakt instruments, dont visit VI-Control for information, they love everything.
