If you have use a compressor or expander only in parallel with the dry signal, then it’s probably not a very good volume modulator. Lens massively changes the tone of things making it akin to parallel eq but it’s not distorted enough to use filtered in parallel like a Pultec. It reminds me more of a dysfunctional Pro Audio DSP DSM.perpetual3 wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2024 10:14 am I use it exclusively in parallel.

Sounds friggin' nice and expensive if dialed in carefully. Like 5k hardware comp nice. If it had Weiss on it and costed 250bucks it probably would sell like hotcakeOne of the most innovating and clever plugin from last 2y imho, kudos auburn!
No, it is not as simple as labeling it something else and it suddenly sounds "like 5k hardware comp nice" and sells like hotcakes.
I won't comment on the plugin itself as I don't have much to say about it (yes I've tried the plugin back when it was released) but their audio demos on the website are still the same as they were in the day and they are not at all impressive. On the contrary, they sound rather mediocre at best, to my ears. That is not a good way to sell things.
This I can agree with and that does give it added value for sure, provided that you like the way that differing result sounds like (which is entirely subjective).sinkmusic wrote: Mon Nov 20, 2023 9:50 am and it gives quite different results than other compressors, so it's a really nice tool to have i your arsenal.

I start with the smallest lens, fully linked. In increase the ratio, turn down the threshold, and then dial
In release and attack. Then I increase the lens size, unlink bands, and blend in with the original signal. Try it.

ok i should have choose my wordings a bit more wisely, it's never going to replace a 'proper' compressor but it can lead you into that subtle frequency cleanup/tightening territory a good HW varimu also does. granted, the UI is not great (took me an hour to figure out you can add eq points in the comp/expander spectrum graph), you can only control threshold/ratio in the comp/expander GR graph, tiny buttons, the vintage section filters aren't good imho (these spectral filters are always weird sounding) audio demo's might suck (i never check those and go straight to the plugin demo). but i still think it's a pretty unique plugin. it does a weird mixture of Soothe/izotope stabilizer/DSM and i think it's a great option to clean out or 'demask' mids if used wisely. also i use it only in 64 band mode in parallel.bmanic wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 9:34 pm Weiss earned their reputation with good reason and it took a long time too.
to my knowledge TDR Nova is a clean eq and does the parallel thing quite nicely. DSM felt more dysfunctional for me because you have almost no control over the EQ curve.sinkmusic wrote: Mon Nov 20, 2023 9:50 am If you have use a compressor or expander only in parallel with the dry signal, then it’s probably not a very good volume modulator.
