Here, first link, emphasis mine:

https://uproxx.com/pop/ed-sheeran-marvi ... explained/

"The copyright infringement lawsuit against Sheeran is over his 2014 song, “Thinking Out Loud,” which Gaye’s estate has claimed copies the late singer’s “Let’s Get It On.” It was officially filed by the family of the song’s co-writer and composer Ed Townsend."

It's clear that Gaye's estate is involved and, if I'm not mistaken, has spoken out to news media.
How weird of you to argue the toss on his behalf, in part in response to my quick, factual post (pedantic or otherwise). Either Sheeran or Townsend's family will win, not Gaye's. Fact.

OP post in this thread: Townsend

And specifically from the NYT:

"While the “Blurred Lines” suit was filed by Gaye’s family, the plaintiffs in this case are heirs of Mr. Townsend, a songwriter and producer who collaborated with Gaye on his album “Let’s Get It On,” and who shares writing credit with Gaye on the title track."

It's a total joke, 100s of soul funk artists recycle grooves over and over, just like all genres. The melody and lyrics are totally different. That's all that matters or music is dead.

Who can't find another song inside every other song.

Whoa, you are so good at googling, I am very impressed.

Indeed I focused on the base of the discussion which is "how different the 2 songs are? Is there a case for copyright infringement?".

As per the 2 artists, their families, the song writter and the dog, I don't care at all, which explain my mistake. I am sorry (but not very) about it.

If you have time I think you can also browse the forum to correct the English mistakes, as there is numerous non-native English speaker, I am sure you can spot some...

Concerning ghettosynth reaction, I don't find it weird that somebody is trying to make this forum a bit more friendly and less aggressive. I don't see the point to jump at each other necks for such small topics...

Anyway.... Go on...

Yeah but can you spell correctly the name of the lawsuit as well as the defendant ???

(sorry just kidding, please ignore :-p)

I wrote one f**king sentence to you pointing out you got the plaintiff wrong and ghetto jumped on my cock so I responded. Why don’t you give it a f**king rest yourself about how “good I am at Googling. Couldn’t give a f**k whether you’re impressed or not.

....Still you seems very upset my friend... Chill, go out, see some friends...

Actually, to be clear I was not much chocked by your sentence (I think Vurt said it in a very much polite way after but whatever).
But I thought the way you answered to ghettosynth was very funny, with the need to find 4 links to prove you are right and I am wrong. It looked very ... small minded lol...

Anyway... I will not try to piss you more than you already are. It is a music forum. We are all nice people. We love music. It is a place of happiness. Forget about it...

This will be a puzzler. They played the Sheeran song on TV news this morning and I don't hear it. But when the guy on the news yesterday isolated the drums and chords, you couldn't tell them apart.

So do you think it was purposely done ? Or could have it been unintentional ?

Actually it happens to me when I am thinking of a melody to ask myself if I like it because I like it or .... It is because I heard it before... I think we all have this fear somehow...

Rick Beato's take. He originally (I think) posted the clip that's seen in the news some four years ago.

Amen

At least there is some similarity in groove so you could maybe see the case. I thought the blurred lines decision was worse though. Basically the decision was if your backing tracks sounds inspired by someone else's music we can sue you. Doesn't matter if the melody and chords have nothing much to do with each other.

The first person to write a drum and bass record using amen could be taking cases out forever! Who wrote the first 12 bar blues?? Sorry copyrighted the first 12 bar blues. Cases for ever. Overdriven 909, cases for ever.
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Agreed, especially here the groove is super vanilla, like heard 1000 times... maybe ed got it from a sample pack... (Marvin's probably not, lol)
