Yup... Patterns but 2.54 TS-404 was even simpler as it had no piano roller just the keyboard combo with note-slides & the curves for velocity, cutoff, pan & what-not-
Image

You just keep looping the same pattern till you get all the channels right that you wanna add you also see the 'phonepad' banks buttons for the few or the buttload you wish to compose...

So mostly sample based in 2.54 but there was the TS404 & the DrumSyn (MDA) and Importation of SimSynth patches 1 & 2 so plenty to work with other than pure samples...

So from browser you just drag a sample or preset onto channel button & start pecking notes out, then drag chosen channels box out on playlist for as long as you wanna play that pattern block repeatedly...

2.54 could use VSTs for FX but limited to mostly GUI-less plugZ but I got this many working-

Also actually got some GUI plugs to work as well-

The DX plug side much better many good plugs could be used-

And many more combined with fast sample workflow easy on CPU & drivers no wonder there was so much output back in the day & so little now...

I remember Artillery and North Pole.

Yeah, That's an early version of Artillery that was still DX... NorthPole STILL very good plug...

I highly doubt it'll be released in 2023. Doesn't make sense to release a program that people will have to pay full price for during the holiday season. Release is most likely February/March of 2024.

fl was first thing i used back in 2001 - got back into it recently - its awesome

one thing id like to know - fastest way to resample - into a slicex for example - seems to be quite a convoluted process.

Post

Slicex is a great tool.

To resample what??

Let´s say you have a clip in the playlist you want to resample...
1. Select the clip... or multiple if you like...
2. CTRL+ALT+C (CMD+Option+C it should be on a Mac) to consolidate the clip
3. Doubleclick the created audio clip
4. drag the waveform display from the audio clip editor into Slicex...

There are DAWs making it a bit faster but it´s not that bad... and the others do not have Slicex... 8)

Slicex reminds me of that old bit of goodness - Dr. Rex I think it was called. Rx player/slicer. You can do a lot more with Slicex. I had a drum loop that clashed with a kick and I was able to load it and tune just the perc hit that was the issue. Great thing is it did by Regions so I didn't have to spend a lot of time highlighting each hit and repeating the process.

A noob thread seem to be the right place to ask..

Can anyone tell me the logic behind how FL inserts patterns in the next bar when you're closer to that bar line?
Image

Why not in the bar the cursor is actually on/in?
And if there is a good logic behind this, why doesn't delete (right click) work the same way?
I've always wondered about this. Seem so strange. Or rather, to me it seems like a bug.
I know I can select Cell, but then I can't select grid size 🤷‍♂️

Just so you know, you can use FL Studio as a plugin to get access to the FL Studio plugins in another host. If you do that, you don't really need to futz around in the playlist at all. IIRC, by default you get 16 channels loaded in the rack, each of which responds to a different MIDI channel. So you can simply send notes from your preferred host to FL Studio on a particular MIDI channel. And IIRC, each instrument is also routed to its own mixer channel, and these can be routed to specific plugin audio outputs, allowing you to simply handle the audio output in your preferred DAW's mIxer.

It's been a while since I loaded FL Studio as a plugin, so I might have the details slightly wrong. But if you are well-acquainted with another DAW and your primary goal is simply to use your plugins, you might be able to spare yourself the hassle of learning a new DAW from scratch and simply use the plugin version, treating it as Yet Another Multi-Out Instrument With a Convoluted UI.

Unfortunately it doesn't come as a VST3 which limits what I can use it in, plus I would rather it just loaded as an empty (and not full screen) window rather than always with this huge project already loaded that I then have to delete

Ideally I would love a plugin just of their patcher that can load their plugins

This 100% (although with a Pianoroll as a plugin as well)

EDIT: Remember Minihost modular - it's a real shame that went away - that's exactly the FLStudio plugin I would like.

Post

Yeah that’s what I had in mind except I don’t think it actually loaded their own format plugins ironically. If it had I may not have needed to buy Producer

Post

If they brought it back, as a part of Producer, that could load everything, etc. but was just the smaller 'patcher' form factor with a piano-roll 'sequencer' module, it would be superb.
I love everything about FLStudio, except for the main workflow, so my copy is generally dormant.

Post

An option to send recorded samples straight from edison to slicer x would be great.
