There's a part of me that suspects that UAD is slashing prices to compete with Waves.

Yeh, seems to be the same kinda hard sell business model.

It's tempting for sure. But I honestly don't want to have iLok in my life.

And after all I'm not sure if they are really that much better compared to Blackrooster, Fuse, Audiority, DMG Trackcomp and Aturia etc.

I have all but the 2 latest additions and the offer UA presents me with is an upgrade path of £327,50...... seriously?..  wtf is going on with UA. They used to be a solid company that you could rely on to have a certain level of integrity.
ya I'm so pissed of.. I want the distressor but I can't get it for a decent price.
I've already payed more than this bloody bundle and got much less :/ :x

they'll probably have it in a $39 sale in a few months (happened with DBX straight on release day)

I wish I was starting out buying plugins. I'd buy it. So many of these are redundant for me. Some I just don't care for much.

I have found the software ilok pretty good. Much better than when it was dongle based. I haven’t really had any probs with it.

I assume you're talking about iLok Cloud since that is what UAD uses, and I haven't had any issues with it either. I will never use machine authorization again after losing a Mac and having it take months to get my licenses back.

ilok no good, uninstall now :?

I don’t like iLok Cloud at all. I’ve had a couple times where my internet went down and my UAD plugins said they weren’t authorized. And I really prefer not working with a dongle on my laptop. Taking a laptop to work on location with little or no internet reception makes for an untenable situation. Hopefully enough respected professionals will have a bad enough time with it that Universal Audio reconsiders machine based authorizations.

Sure, those are good for users, but don't offer much protection for developers.
I'm fine with challenge/response systems or even machine-based iLok. I just don't like internet-based because it's only as reliable as your internet connection.

I don't mind the iLok dongle for a desktop DAW, and I have one in mine, locked inside the case. But I've retired that system because my MacBook Pro is twice its speed. And now with the new M3 MacBooks, I don't see why anyone would ever buy a desktop computer again.

I have a reliable fiber connection, so no issues with iLok Cloud yet. If I were traveling with spotty wifi, I'm sure my opinion would be different. I bought a USB-C iLok for easy use with my MacBook.
