Been watching a couple of videos, it sounds like it’s just freezing the sound, what makes it standout?

Think I’ll demo, thanks for the suggestion, this one flew under my radar completely.

Anyone have any thoughts on Sugar-Bytes Graindad?
It’s at a massive 10% off, haha.
Two sections can freeze the sound. The blur delay and the reverb but it doesn't have to. You can use each section independently and adjust how long each section will last. The reverb has early and late reflections

You can sidechain it, lock it to a key, do a filter sweep, add chorus and wow and flutter, add saturation to the input and make it 8 bit, reverse the particles and add two types of shimmer

I just find it a very comprehensive cloudy granular delay. Super smooth and musical.

Graindad as Martiu says is more rhythm based. Much "grainer" than the others. Noteasy to get it sounding smooth like a reverb.

I notice that u-he's Uhbik is on sale for 74.50 Euros, and it has a granular effect called Uhbik-G. Has anyone used it? Any good? Nice price for NINE u-he effects.

You're likely right. I didn't take it for a spin but my interpretation of the product description is that it's a granular Fx engine, of which reverb is one of the built-in effects.

Was looking at Audio Damage Quanta 2. Technically an instrument but still operates on samples. Pretty impressive. I assume the Black Monday deals applies to it at 40% off.

Quanta 2 is my goto granular synth but I would have it firmly in the granular sampler category.

FRMS by imaginando is another granular sampler but it can process live audio.

There's also Autochroma by imagiro which is another granular processor that can give you reverb like effects.

It's effectively 3 granular processors running in parallel and it's fantastic and also on sale at the moment.

Another one that is often not mentioned is Other Desert Cities by Audio Damage. Technically a delay but it has a granular mode that can be fed into a diffusion processor to get reverbs.

I think it's perfect for sound design purposes, as you can easily move the tape head around and get the exact part of the sample. But then I also like rhythmic effects.

I had Quanta 1, and it was buggy as all hell, and the interface was not easy to use. Not even options to type in values for parameters (which really needed it).

The new one is apparently not much different. Stay away from Audio Damage.

I downloaded the Triad today and it's been a revelation... so creative, great presets -- going to be my new go-to for all things sound design

How much did you pay for it?

Silo probably wins this for me. It's just super confusing to use and not at all intuitive. Even the stripped back version in Byome is hard to manage. I almost always just choose a random patch with Silo and then tweak it and hope I don't break something.

Beyond that, I really like Arturia Fragments. Much simpler, doesn't sound as good as Silo but has modulation and post FX which is a nice touch.

Looking forward to trying the new grain filter in Filterverse feeding into the space filter.

Another honorable mentions:

Lese Frahm - although not a granual processor per se, but it uses a particle based force field system where each of the particles is a sound source.

Lese Glow

Sound Particles inDelay - at its root lies a complex 3D delay engine, but it also allows for utilization of up to 100 particles simultaneously bouncing, colliding against each other and within the confines of a virtual room, that can be reshaped, resized as the sound is being played, quite expensive though, but in my opinion worth every cent and penny.

Will gladly hear about any additional offerings available. :)

Indelay is fantastic. It has Sound Particles "Air" processor built into it so you can emulate distance dampening and doppler effects. It will kill your computer if you use it in particle mode though!

Frahm and Glow are also excellent. Frahm does amazing things to the stereo field.

The king of everything granular is Crusher-X. Very expensive relative to others but it can pretty much do any granular style effect with an almost obscene level of detail.

Each grain can have its own reverb, for God's sake!

Again it will likely melt your computer but it's truly amazing.
