Sure, but... that interview had strong Spinal Tap vibes at times_leras wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 6:09 pmstoopicus wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 5:47 am "They're French, but MiniBrute is actually written in English."![]()
Mini brute also works in French.
Brute is most likely an English word of french origin.
Often skipped over in history France effectively ruled over England from 1066 to 1204 and French was the official language. Amongst many other words, you can basically assume any word ending in -ment or -ine have come from French.
I thought it sucked, but maybe I got a dud unit? I had a red one for a few years, but sold it a couple years back and replaced it with a Bass Station 2. It was pretty neat, but it ran out of anything 'new' to do pretty quickly. It always reminded me of a 'My First Monosynth' kinda thing. The filter on mine had a tiny sweet spot where you could actually hear a nice sweep from about 1:00-2:00 and that was about it. Outside of that range, it was either all or none. The CV on it is really messed up too, its 0V is a whole four octaves above what a lot of my modular was expecting at that voltage. My Doepfer VCO's had to be completely detuned to play in key, and I couldn't use my EMW's because they didnt have enough range to adjust to match it. No adjusting the voltage on the Micro either, but you can on all the other Arturia stuff. I asked about that once and support was like 'Oh we'll think about it maybe' and then the synth was discontinued shortly after hah.cryophonik wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 12:17 amI agree. Arturia's Steiner Parker filter is a great sounding and very flexible filter. For the sake of clarification, I should mention that I've never owned or used a MicroBrute and was referring generally to Arturia's SP filter. I own a PolyBrute and MatrixBrute and, between the two filters on each, I generally tend to gravitate to the SP filter. I previously owned a MiniBrute 2S and recall liking the filter on that as well, even though I didn't vibe with the synth overall. So, yeah, maybe you had a dud, or maybe the SP sounds different on the MicroBrute and/or just wasn't your cup o' tea?mothra wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:57 pmI thought it sucked, but maybe I got a dud unit? Which do you prefer of the PolyBrute and MatrixBrute? I'm starting to look for something in that vein and have been wondering about those two plus the Udo Super 6, the Iridium and the Opsix.cryophonik wrote: Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:04 pmFor the sake of clarification, I should mention that I've never owned or used a MicroBrute and was referring generally to Arturia's SP filter. Oooh, tough question, but probably the PolyBrute, since it can also be a very good mono synth. That said, I’ve only owned my MayrixBrute for less than 2 months and it has really shocked me at what an amazing synth it is. It’s not a mono version of the PolyBrute (or vice versa) - it’s its own synth with a much different sweet spot.Double Tap wrote: Wed Dec 20, 2023 9:27 am Which do you prefer of the PolyBrute and MatrixBrute? Thanks! Interesting to hear that about the Opsix - I need to find time to get to a music shop to try them out of course, but the PolyBrute felt the nicest when I was trying it out at a show over the summer.cryophonik wrote: Thu Dec 21, 2023 1:38 amOooh, tough question, but probably the PolyBrute, since it can also be a very good mono synth. I can’t help you with the Super 6 or Iridium since I’ve never owned either of them and neither of them really appeal to me. I did own an Opsix for a short period and have to admit that it sounded great and I loved how easy it made FM stnthesis, but it was totally let down by an absolutely dismal build quality. I’ve never played a synth that felt like such a cheap and flimsy POS. I wish Korg (and Roland) would start taking themselves and their customers a bit more seriously. But, I digress…
Yeah, it's so weird. The Modwave, Wavestate, and Opsix are all super original and interesting synths, and all three are famously flimsy with bad quality assurance.Double Tap wrote: Thu Dec 21, 2023 11:41 am Thanks! Good idea - I really hadn't thought much about Korg plugins for some reason.stoopicus wrote: Thu Dec 21, 2023 10:35 pmYeah, it's so weird.
