I write open source software to shower myself clean from all the times I've wrapped plugins with an iLok for clients.Borbolactic wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 12:58 amMaybe Native Instruments or another similar outfit can wave lots of money in the dev's eyes and then we can bear witness to its last libre open source code form we'll ever see and then something like it, but closed-source proprietary, will pop up for $199 (and some sort of locking scheme) that many rave about over the years in pages and pages of comments. Looks interesting but - the eternal question - will it support microtuning at some point?

Thank you, looking forward to the next version (and saving up for Apple silicon to run it)aaron_anderson wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 2:12 am
Frankly I just forgot to implement the pitch modulation - I've added that to my to-do list.

This looks very interesting. Thank You.

As you may already know if you own a Mac, Apple seems to want to more 'lock' its apps into its, let's call it, 'appliance', more than a 'universal machine', by 'tentacling' them into its OS and making them harder, if not eventually impossible to remove.aaron_anderson wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 3:39 amI write open source software to shower myself clean from all the times I've wrapped plugins with an iLok for clients.Borbolactic wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 12:58 amMaybe Native Instruments or another similar outfit can wave lots of money in the dev's eyes and then we can bear witness to its last libre open source code form we'll ever see and then something like it, but closed-source proprietary, will pop up for $199 (and some sort of locking scheme) that many rave about over the years in pages and pages of comments. What with AI making stronger and more personal appearances now, and likely getting tentacled in like that (and perhaps already like in its new iPhone for example) it seems like a slippy slope toward various kinds of 'Open the pod-bay doors, HAL' scenarios.
Microsoft appears to be trying the same thing, but their OS is licensed for other computer brands than just their own. As a result, many more may be jumping ship and onto Linux (and possibly even an 'open hardware' system), which seems like the opposite end to Apple's ostensible 'appliance' strategy, with MS being in the middle.
I came across an article elsewhere recently that included the phrase, '1984 wasn't supposed to be an instruction manual.'.
'RTFM'? I think my head just exploded.

That was fast (soon). Sounds great and looks like you're trying to trap a little fire guy in the donut and it's trying to get out. So cruel.

I would love to support the microtuning crowd! I know about microtonality from a music theory perspective, but I have no idea where to start from a technical perspective. Do you or anyone else have some links I can dive in to on this? What features are needed?EnsoLake wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 7:57 am Looks interesting but - the eternal question - will it support microtuning at some point?

Intel Mac builds are high on my priority list! The issue is that I don't have an Intel Mac to test or build on; I'm trying to compile on an M1 to deploy on x86 architecture - Apple really likes to make backwards compatibility difficult/impossible. That being said I may even have this done by the end of the day today.Old Norse wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 3:55 pmThank you, looking forward to the next version (and saving up for Apple silicon to run it)aaron_anderson wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 2:12 am

That being said - you can always just build it! It's not as scary as it may sound; I have detailed steps in the ReadMe: https://github.com/aaronaanderson/Terrain

Hey, don't sweat it, Mr. Anderson! The M4 Macs are supposedly being released in early November, and I guess a lot of us oldtimers with Intel machines are looking to jump on those. Then we can unleash your creation with unlimited polyphony... no?aaron_anderson wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 5:57 pmIntel Mac builds are high on my priority list! Wonder if it compiles for Aarch64 via Termux, might give it a try soon. Would be lovely to have a "pocket" Android sound generator like this.aaron_anderson wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 5:57 pm That being said - you can always just build it! if you have questions i know some microtonal freaks, that helped a developer to implement it, or you contact the Surge team, they can also help (or helped..).
