I don't seriously love any software based distortions out there, but between the dozen or so I have I can find things that are useful. So more choice is what it's all about here. Almost any DAW can let you draw modulation shapes as automation, and most DAWs with Clips excel at it, that's not close to a deal breaker for me.
But think of it this way, you could more or less basically make HATE with the free Audio Damage and other plugins, and have each plugin have modulation and more flexibility as to the chain order. I get that there's some worth to have things in a single package, but I sort of feel like this one would sit without too much use. Lack of modulation and a UI that hides controls for no good reason makes it a pass.

Are you sure the wavetable part is the same ?

Modulating what, and with what? TBH, I usually remove any modulation on effects, especially distortion. It tends to annoy the shit out of me. Rift being a good example. On most of the presets there is so much modulation going on that everything starts to sound the same. But once I remove all the modulation, a lot of the presets have a really usable underlying tone. So that's what I do with it most of the time.

I bought Heavyocity's Fury the other day, cheap. I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet but I liked what I heard in the demos. Most of the time, though, we use Tarabia Pro because it sounds f**king great and all the features are there so you can play around with the tone, to dial it in exactly the way you want it. None of this scrolling through different options to find one you like, just refining the basic tone that's already really good.

I generally am a fan of Dawesome plugins but the demo videos of this sound pretty bad in my opinion. I believe that it is capable of doing cool things and sounding good, but the videos make me feel like I'm not missing anything by passing on this one.

i tried the demo and to be honest i prefer Arturia Dist Coldfire, it sounds better to me and the UI is awesome

Once purchased, I got the installer directly from my Tracktion account; didn't need to bother with the Download Manager.

The download manager does have problems. Things that are updated that continue to nag to be updated. Especially when done through the account instead of the manager. Also, a recent "Content" for F'em would only download 95% from account before it cut off as a "network fail" multiple tries and went through successfully on the first try through the manager. So some forced use is implied there. It would be nice if they allowed you to completely remove trial software when no longer interested in. Both from manager and account.

Always a good Idea to give the developers some feedback, as I am pretty sure that Tracktion would be eager to improve their download - manager. Also pretty sure, that they might not be monitoring this forum, or specific threads. Maybe just get in touch instead?

I'm not in the mood to teach you basic synthesis, but I highly encourage you to learn it.

A good example ironically is fury.

One of the nice things about Fury is that you can modulate various parameters (e.g. Drive amount) with the envelope follower. A lot of fury's presets use it.

This is particularly useful on drums or transient heavy material. You might want to distort the front end of the sound but leave the rest intact.

A great way of adding some aggression without changing the sound too much.

With HATE I just find it weird that a wavetable based effect has no way of scanning through the wavetable.

I've done it with Ableton's inbuilt modulators (LFO and Envelope follower) And you can get some fantastic gnarly sounds out of it.

After playing around with this a bit, I find this nice for working with rhythms. But I would like to be able to lay an lfo on the wavetable. Or am I missing something?

Not sure if you've noticed but this thread is about an effect, synthesis doesn't come into it at all (although it does go into it).

Get your INPUT level and DRIVE setting right and a good distortion effect will do that all by itself - the higher the input level, the more the signal gets overdriven, so loud parts are distorted more than quiet parts.

Nope, not missing anything, though many are of the mind that HATE is missing something... except BONES. He hates modulation, and therefore we should hate it too.

I don't hate modulation, I'm just so f**king good that I can do amazing things without it. I realise that makes you jealous but you need to learn to live with it, I'm afraid.
