It's awesome that they expanded on what the others are doing. Adds the lower MEQ-5 band to the EQP-1. Let's dip with the high-frequency band. Pretty true to the OG design but adds some flexibility to make it more useful.

They have a bunch of modeled instruments and a lot of effects of their own design. It makes sense that they would add a couple of modeled effect offerings to their portfolio.

I did hear someone mention that it should have also included the HLF-3C, which might have been nice for functionality but would also make the plugin less immediate.

for me it was a no-brainer for a reason. I can use this for my bass on all my systems. (i like the Pultec trick (boost and attenuate at the same time) for my bass and basically the other two options i have (UAD pultec & Waves Puigtec) would work only on my main machine. This one i can take and work with it anywhere. So yeah a good Pultec without any ilok BS. works for me.

In the rare instances I feel like using a Pultec I just use the free one from Ignite Amps. Kiive Audio does a good one as well.

Sadly it seems the (Gearspace sourced) evidence doesn't support Pulsatec being anything spectacular. Particularly in the realm of recreating non linear behaviour. And without that, I may as well use any of the other digital eq's I have. Really disappointed as I was hoping it would kill my lust for the Softube Pultec.

This is pure snake-oil. It's just a few clean and basic eq curves, no harmonics, no saturation. No "musical warmth" nor "analog-style coloration" at all.

It's easily reproduceable by every clean stock eq : take a low shelf to boost, take a bell curve to cut and it will sound identical. I got it to null within seconds using Cubase's stock eq.

D16 should be ashamed for releasing this with all the marketing nonsense.

Isn't that the nature of passive EQs that they are rather 'clean''?
Passive circuits inherently do less harm to audio, especially when it comes to smeared transient response, various distortions and other unwanted colorations. Passive EQs basically allow much more tone shaping with much less coloration

A passive eq design always needs amplification. Which is also described several times in that article that you posted, it even has a chapter called 'Coloration from MakeUp Gain'.

A Pultec is far from clean btw. It actually adds a few db's just by inserting it. Because it uses tubes on both the input and output stage, adding harmonics to a signal even when it's not eq-ing.

But all that aside, it's about D16 having marketed their eq for adding "musical warmth" and "analog-style coloration". Which was just nonsense. And which they now admitted to, as they apparently added coloration in the last update.
