Greetings all!

Since I am going on vacation soon and won't have any more time working out the details - here comes my submission for this month. I really liked working with Odin, such a cool synth with many neat tricks under the hood. Looking forward to listening to all entries! :phones:

This month was a real challenge!

When I looked at Odin, I came up with the idea of a true One (!) Synth Challenge – just a single instance, no excuses.
I dove deep into sound design and quickly realized: this would become a real borderline experience (German: Grenzerfahrung).

While endlessly tweaking, I kept discovering new sonic paths – sometimes inspiring, sometimes frustrating.
Odin could be pretty temperamental when dealing with MIDI, but in the end, I managed to shape something that feels raw, tense, and expressive.

So here it is: Grenzerfahrung –
a track born from limitation, chaos, and way too many hours. ;)

NJoy. Any feedback welcome.

Hi everyone,

https://soundcloud.com/impedancemusic/n ... hts-ganzes

here is my „emergency“ submission, since i won’t be at home until the deadline and i’m not sure if i’ll have internet or the time to make some – tbh - pretty much needed adjustments.
Update: I didn't, but went home earlier and had about an hour for fixing stuff :P

Well this track has some flaws – i think it sounds like a bunch of ideas thrown together and the mix needs some work. Update: The mix is a bit better now

The idea was a multistage bossfight, each stage representing an era of videogame music:

Stage 1: Sound Effects, no music
Stage 2: 8-bit Chiptune Music, Mono with 4 tracks
Stage 3: FM Chiptune Music, Stereo
Stage 4: Back to 8-bit Chiptune, but Gameboy edition
Stage 5: PCM era
Outro: Victory/Credits

Technical Details:
Every sound is made from scratch, as always.

DAW: FL Studio 2024
Instances: 32
BPM: 179, 159
Total Bars: 197

Fruity Maximus [1]

Odin2 is quite a capable, enjoyable synth!
It's reasonable to not need any plugins at all, although a multiband comp would certainly be welcome, or at least a shelving filter, not to be confused with the one on IKEAs website.

I spent more time longing for the ghost limb of expected fm & pm ratios and additional operators rather than simply firing up the audio rate modulation or noticing Taron's filter modulation suggestion.

The lush reverb is a nice addition! Having grappled with getting all-pass and comb filters to sit in the right place, I can imagine why the decay is limited to such a large space, rather than the most intimate of rooms. I think many people would like an intimate room. Not to be confused with ones furnished with IKEA.

The bug that's surely been mentioned regarding the poly to legato switch collapsing the output to mono seems to be fixed with the sync button of the chorus.

Well that's plenty blabbering from me for the year, other than the obligatory:
I used 22 instances of Odin2 in Reaper 7 and stock plugins
reaeq, reacomp, and reaxcomp, stereo enhancer, and the mid side encoder decoder for a side eq on the master,
with the exception of a LoudMax because I had randomly and unknowingly designed the mix into it. I've since learned how amazingly forgiving it is. If anything, this is a celebration of the first song I've done with a LoudMax master limiter, so there's my prize right there!

78 instances of ODIN in reaper 7

Once again, this competition's favorite genre: DUBSTEP. Luckily the synth had a vocal wavetable that I could exploit for some great growls. probably the best ones I have ever devised in OSC. Surprisingly it's not a lot of distortion as that had ruined the sound during experimenting. It's mostly the work of filters and some gentle saturation with Ohmicide, OTT on top and clipping. I tried to maintain energy throughout. kept it short for the sensitive ears so enjoy, hopefully your ears don't+ bleed after this one.

I am going on a vacation, so unfortunately I could not polish the track as much as I would have liked to. It's a bit rough at some edges. However, I did not want to let it go wasted, either.

Looking forward to your tracks and feedback!

It's there now. Think I tried to add it before right when you were updating.
