There are a ton of filter type in Ana, and they are usually pretty obvious what they are modeled after. E.g. Roly, Corgy, Ober, Mogy, EMS. Plus a ton that aren't direct emulations.

I love the OP-X Pro, and the new update makes it more immediate to program :)

??? No one can create music like him, that's not the point at all, stop dreaming and make your own stuff. I am just interested in everything he did and used. Oberheim obviously never clicks with me and that's ok.
When I use a softsynth is all that matters whether I like using it, whether it is 100% like the real thing is not that important, and I also use Cherry Audio plugins and the prices today are all affordable more or less.
And there are cases I like the plugin more than the hardware, back in the day we had Waldorf Microwave in the studio, never liked it, but today I do like the plugin a lot.
Well, whether I do sound sometimes like Prince, some people who know me would say yes, he is my main influence, I can't change that, but it doesn't mean I am as good as him or want to copy him, his multi-talent was unique and he spent 24/7 for music, I am pretty sure that was one reason he died pretty early, you can't sleep just 4 hours a day or sometimes 3 days in the studio with almost no sleep or 2 hours sounds check, 2 hours live performance, 2 hours aftershow and 5 hours recording new songs afterwards within one day without consequences. If you take the hours he was awake and compare it to average people, the age he died was actually about 120. I have a job and can't focus on music that much, it is just a hobby. Prince was not born as a talent, he worked extremely hard for his success. People who knew him say, he would also succeed in everything else, he was a great basket player, too and even Michael Jordan knows and experienced it.
AI could make everyone sound like Prince, but that's a different topic

OPX Pro is a desert island synth engine that can seemingly reproduce everything. It would be that one and the Gforce.

Hopefully Arturia's next V Collection upgrade should release a mk2 rewrite of ARP 2600 and Matrix 12 V introduced Collection V4.

In this case you DO like the hardware Oberheim, but none of the emus. You've listened to a large amount of software Oberheims and they aren't what you like. I suppose you can continue to listen to all of the emus that exist, then pick one or none if you don't like any of them.

Arturia OB-Xa V
Synapse Audio Obsession
discoDSP OB-Xd
GForce Oberheim OB-X
Sonic Projects OP-X PRO-II/III
freebies like older OBXD versions

These are emus of the particular model.

They are the most important part of a lot of Prince songs I like, so Oberheim of course is a topic for me, just like Linn Drum, Yamaha DX7 and CP70, LA2A, EMT250, AKG C12, Sennheiser MD-431 and 441, Neumann U 67 and 87, API console, Yamaha C7XSH Grand Piano, Recording 9000 series Warwick Thumb bass, Yamaha Recording 9000 series drums etc.everything Prince related.
Don't worry, I don't have all this stuff , C12 mic would be a dream come true, I only have some API emus that I use sometimes and EMT 250 emu and LA2A (I prefer LA3A) and Aly Linn Drum and maybe one day I will buy a Warwick Thumb bass and a Sennheiser MD 441 would be cool, too.
Well, I remember the emus I demoed very well,
I saw a video of Obsession on YouTube and was almost blown away, but the demo was disappointing, didn't sound as I expected and there was something with the playabiltity how the presets respond to my feeling I didn't like, similar with DiscoDSP, well, weak presets afair.
Arturia generally is not my cup of tea, sounds are weak with.lack of vitality and warmth.
Oberhausen, short demo, I immediately didn't like it. I got GForce TVS Pro cheap, it is nice, rather a niche synth with 2 voices only.
I have OP-X II, it tries to be several synth emus, that's not bad and synth is not bad, some nice bass , but presets are done sloppy, a lot of too loud presets, I dislike it
I have come to the conclusion Oberheim is not for me, there are hundreds of other synths and this thread shows that some know or have real Oberheims and like some emu, because it comes close or the opposite cuz it's different and offer new sounds - great.
Prince indeed looked still pretty good in his older days, I mean look at Mark Brown, Sonny T, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jesse Johnson, Morris Day...
they still look so good. Must be something special in Minneapolis - food, the air, the vibe, pretty cold there , so weather is not too hot, maybe good water they drink... and never (hard drugs) or alcohol (Morris was an exception for some years during/after Purple Rain (success)).
I am pretty sure I also wouldn't like Prince's most used guitar - a Tele copy by Hohner, but I would like to play it once.

These plugins emulate different models.

Gforce and sonic project emulates obx, while others obxa.

Obx is sem based, where's obxa not. Also obxa doesnt have crossmod but synapse, arturia and obxd have their own implamentation which behaves and sounds very different from obx.

I’ve actually always liked the sound of the bx Oberhausen. I care very little if it’s sounds matched any hardware 100% as I have never owned that type of hardware. I just care if the sound does something I like. I think for anyone it just comes down to personal preferences. You may not even like what an actual hardware OBX sounds like on it’s own..

As a disclaimer; I’m not much one for plugins that try to copy some hardware 100% anyway. I treat everything as it’s own thing and either like the sound I get out of it or I don’t.

Matt67 wrote: Wed Dec 31, 2025 12:31 pm One thing in advance: with the exception of the OB-Xa, which I replaced with an OB-8 because of MIDI, I still own all of my Oberheim hardware synthesizers: OB-8, Matrix-12, Matrix-6, and two 6Rs.
If you ever get a chance to try the new Behringer UB-1 Micro, I'd love to hear your take on it. It's a DCO Matrix clone.

Personally, when I set up the OB-X8 to control GForce OB-X, I found them to sound extremely similar. The hardware control is a big part of the experience.
