Yes, but as I said (maybe I wasn't clear enough): you can already make all the same connections in Reason without ever needing to use/touch/see a cable and without the source or destination you're routing from/to being visible. (It's been possible for ages.)
I'm well aware you can make all connections via the right click menu.

If the "per track" racks were truly separate, there's no reason to assume this would still be possible any more than dragging a cable (i.e. if it were a "Rack Plugin" per track). Fortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. The press release confirms the feature merely "gives each track its own dedicated Rack column".

Yes, but why would anyone assume ever that to be the case?
When I watched the video it seemed completely obvious to me that it is merely different graphical representation. Assuming a true seperation seems like a wholly bizarre idea to me that they'd never in a million years do. (Keep in mind that this would - besides the vast lost functionality for new projects - mean that your older projects might have connections you'd have no access at all to anymore.)

But: a singular rack indeed doesn't let you drag cables the way you might be used to do and - rather than having to switch to the full rack as you suggested - one could simply right-click any connector instead, which is why I pointed out that this option already exists.

But even if there wouldn't be a whole complete Rack to look at anymore but only the single racks (which again there's no reason to assume it as you also pointed out) there'd be no real functionality lost.

To be clear--since it's now clarified by RS--there are three modes. Disabling "single column" mode is not the same thing as reverting to the Reason 13 style rack (which is also possible). Described here.

The backwards compatibility point isn't really valid, because old song files presumably will not use the new system. That said, I agree they wouldn't hamstring the defining feature of the software like that. Hence my attempt to assuage the concerns of the poster I was responding to. It's hard to draw definite conclusions about how it all works at this point, but I would be very surprised if any functionality is actually removed (including the actual cables, which most users seem to like  ).

It might be nice to be able to choose the base color of the devices. Right now it’s white, but a “dark mode for devices” would be great too, wouldn’t it?
Dark, bright or even other colors like blue.

Music gear is often availible in different colores or variations in reality.

Thomann are doing a cheap upgrade price. You can also purchase the full DAW for £122, which is pretty neat.

If I upgrade now to 13 from Thomann will I get free update for 14?

According to https://www.reasonstudios.com/new-in-14 (under "hero" banner) YES.
Someone already archived the page on https://web.archive.org/web/20260408200 ... /new-in-14

If later they don’t let someone upgrade for free, they could complain and point to what the article says.

Does Reason 14 include the rack only version?

Yes!

citing there website:
Reason is the Rack and the devices. Reason is a plugin and a DAW. Reason is the wires and the workflow. Reason is your musical ideas and your final result.

I have applied for the beta, I am excited about this one. I have been mainly using the rack in Live, but I always liked the simplicity of Reason for linear recording- good comping, blocks (arrangement), melodyne like pitch correction...it's all there already. I was a Fender Studio/Live guy to cover all bases, but Fender Studio is just getting so complicated (I guess others may say feature rich!)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I just updated my old 6.5 version auf Reason to 13, an now have the option to take part in the 14 beta. Is 14 a seperated install, or does it do a inplace upgrade? Dont have too much space left on my harddrive....

Post

@shommer, 14 will be a separate Installation 13 and 14 will co exist, I imagine 5- 6 GB, If that is too much Remove 13 first and then install 14 beta or otherwise wait until May.

Looking forward to this update :hyper:
Will upgrade on day 1 if the price is right :tu:

Just got Reason from Thomann. Fingers crossed that third-party buys still qualify for the free Reason 14 update!

I also took the plunge, based on the wording that anyone who registers Reason will qualify for Reason 14. It didn't state anywhere that you would need to buy the license from their own store.

Let's see in May what's going to happen. Otherwise I'll definitely send them an e-mail.
