Thanks for the friendly welcome back! I know I had not posted in awhile (but I was lurking the whole time).

I noticed in the Sonic Synth 2 presets that you listed "Fremen Pad" and "Fremen Like Chorus". It's great to see you incorporate a little Dune into SS2. :D

I, too, would like to see the other books made into miniseries. The God Emperor of Dune was largely philosophical and I would love to see how a director would tackle the book.

I am also thankful that Brian Herbert (Frank's son) and Kevin J. Anderson will finally complete the original Dune series to reveal the events after Chapterhouse: Dune. According to the offical Dune website: Brian will write "The two-volume 'grand climax' to the DUNE chronicles, HUNTERS OF DUNE and SANDWORMS OF DUNE, based directly on the 'Dune 7' outline written by Frank Herbert." :D :-o

He's make two books out of Dune 7? Wow. Brian knows how to milk it!

I think they should do a movie of God, Emperor just so we can see what Leto will look like. It's trippy how many years in the future it is from the last one. Reminds me of the end of AI. (or visa versa). They should just do the last three books in one like they did with 2 and 3.

I guess we're really lucky to have seen Children really.

I don't know how they would do God Emperor. It would be difficult I imagine.

I loved the two miniseries they did do though.
Got them as soon as they came out on DVD.

I'm a bit of a DUNE freak but I was a real Paul Attreides person. I couldn't come to grips with God Emperor and because of that I've never read past that book.

I love reading. It's strange when your sensibilities or emotional response to a book or books can actually prevent you from reading further.

I had the same problem with Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. The book and character were so perfect that I can't bring myself to read the rest of the series despite everyone's good reviews.

Sometimes I just don't like change. :hihi:

Argh! You brought up that totally trashy feel-good ending.

God I hated that. :x

The very end was cheesy with the alien/robot thing sounding like Father Christmas. But, just before that it was cool. REALLY cool. That trippy "2 thousand years later" biz with the snow encrusted NYC was awesome and the glimpse of a weird surreal quiet future with all of this advanced stuff going on... that was wild. They really had you going until they pulled the Disney move. He was going for the story book ending but it didn't work. The whole thing about her coming back for a day was dumb too. I also thought the Flesh Fair was annoying too earlier. However, everything else in the film is fantastic, well, most everything. Spielberg is still a genius.

I met him once you know. Nice guy. He was backstage at a concert I was in. I didn't really get to talk to him though. Minority Report was great too. Most of his movies are though.

Ahhh... It's good to see some Dune fans.

For years I have struggled to comprehend most of the books (especially God Emperor). When it comes to some of the philosophies, I get confused. I may not particularily like Frank Herbert's style of writing, but I will never deny the attention to detail and the epic scope of the series; that is what I love.

I agree with you, Squids. What would Leto look like as a giant sandworm? I can't remember but doesn't God Emperor take place something like 4000 years since the events in Children of Dune.

I was not much of a Paul Atreides fan. I adorned the Harkonnen, especially the ill-fated and doomed Beast Rabban (hence my moniker for kvr-vst).

What I think is great for the series is Brian Herbert (and I have been flamed for this sentiment in the past). Frank Herbert's writing style can be highly "involved" and incomprehensible at times (or is it just me?). Brian and Kevin J. Anderson (co-writer) at least have an easy writing style and, while they lack the deep philosophical expositions of Frank, Brian and Kevin do have a penchant for creating an engaging yarn - a magnificent space opera.

I am part way through the 3-book prequel series - The Legends of Dune. I am giddy as I am about to start the last book in this particular series - The Battle of Corrin.

SHIT. Did I just hijack this thread?

It's about movies but books are fine too. Who cares? :D Have fun. It's all OT anyway. We used to do this more in our company forum but now KVR has so many different forums for each thing. I was going to post this in the Everything Else forum but then I thought it'd be nice and nostalgic to give this company forum a little variety of discussion (as opposed to an ST2 brass sound crashing Fruity... just kidding!).

I am stoked because today I bought a bunch of DVDs for $9.99 each. They were good too. Vanilla Sky was one of them. Cameron Crowe is another fantastic director. "You had me at g'hist".

Does anyone remember the movie in the late 70's called, I think, "Laserblast" ? I think it was called that. The poster had these funky scary looking aliens with a laser gun in your face. I never saw it. It probably wasn't any good. But, since there are all of these sci fi nuts around here. ;) Woops. I guess I was right. I thought the aliens looked trippy so I was always curious. But, no one ever mentioned it. This must be why: http://www.badmovies.org/movies/laserblast/

Hey, another great movie (even though OJ is in it) is Capricorn One. This movie was cool. Has anyone seen it?

Capricorn One had a really good premise. I like the parallels to modern times - many people disbelieve the authenticity of the moon landings (anyone remember that Fox special trying to debunk the moon landings?) while the movie faked the mars mission by creating the giant soundstage and the inevitable snafu that threatened the "atronauts". Makes me want to hunt down some astronauts in the desert. :D

I never even heard of Laser Blast so I did a search on IMDB. There was an amusing review of the movie and the actors: "What's surprising about Eddie Deezen is how many perfectly good movies he manages to foul with his presence. Laserblast (apparently Deezen's first screen appearance) has no such problems: he's only a minor befoulment next to the huge smelly pile of excrement that is this science fiction black hole that also sucks in and spits out the likes of perfectly good actors like Keenan Wynn and Roddy McDowell. There's some decent stop-motion animation, but otherwise the plot is a garbled mess, thoroughly pointless in its beginning and ending."
  :hihi:

Oh.. I forgot to mention another (dare I say) brilliant movie (or just plain fun): Equilibrium. It came out a few years ago and starred Christian Bale. Talk about great action scenes, especially using guns like swords (gun-kata). Highly recommend this movie, along with the movie, Cube. Those two movies will make a great night of sci-fi watching. 8)
