ttoz, you need to wear those fat-ass goggles to be able to appreciate orion. They filter out the aliasing.

Well my hosts now are FL Studio Producer (for the automation – I cannot find anything better that I understand)
Energy XT for a light host – great for constructing awesome contortions and pads.
Cubase for full on MIDI plus stuff I am still trying to figure out on it audio wise etc.
Adobe Audition for Audio editing and mastering
Best regards,

Orion is a pattern based program, not a traditional midi sequencer ...with legacy features from the days of hardware synths... Approached from that point of view it's nice and simple... Mixer/fx, instrument channels (w/piano roll), and playlist... pretty much all you need from a virtual studio... The piano roll was the best implementation of any I've tried... Great for "mouse programming" if you have to do it that way! It was my favorite PC DAW, because of what it didn't have... All the stuff I never used in Cubase anyway! Obviously it's "diffent strokes"...

perfect illustration of why this issue is SO subjective ... i loved a LOT of what fl-studio could do but never really liked its automation for some reason hence it falling out of use with me ...Spe3D wrote:Well my hosts now are FL Studio Producer (for the automation – I cannot find anything better that I understand)
... now if youre talking automation then IMHO live really cant be beaten at the moment ...

I just had the worst topic reading experience of my life.....
You can say that you don't like Orion (i have no problems with that), but you can't say it's a piece of shit, i can't stand this kind of agressive topic, just for the pleasure of bashing a group of users or a developper...

I think there is a vast array of tools in FL that make automation a breeze plus powerful – but for sure the latest edition FL 5 has AutoClips, where you can literally draw the curve or path the knob or control should follow during song mode – this has brought the largely hidden aspect of automation into a very visible form.pHz wrote:perfect illustration of why this issue is SO subjective ... i loved a LOT of what fl-studio could do but never really liked its automation for some reason hence it falling out of use with me ...Spe3D wrote:Well my hosts now are FL Studio Producer (for the automation – I cannot find anything better that I understand)
slainterob
So you have a traditional midi type editor for the old type of automation and internal linking of automation controls – plus now the auto clips – that are curves or lfos for automation to follow.
I love that aspect of FL
But indeed its what you can use to get the job done at the end of the day – sometimes it’s a matter of selecting the best from each host that you can get on with = got to have choice.

The things that you say Orion can't do, it does fine.

Damn, that's not a big deal at all.
One time I was using a rather popular sequencer on a rather important project (you'll be able to guess which one). I had just finished saving a rough mix of my project and everything was working fine when, all of the sudden, a squirrel ran in my front door and BIT OFF MY LEFT TESTICLE.
It is amazing to me that anyone continues to use that popular sequencer with all the problems it causes.

I could say a lot of crap things about cubase/tracktion/fruity/inserthostnamehere but I've come to realize they're all like vehicles. some people like the 4 door sedan with all the features, other people like the 2 door pickup. trying to fit the person with the pickup into the sedan and vice versa is going to give them this face
same with host.. ttoz, I feel you are simply in the wrong car
