I've got VSL Solo Strings, Epic Horns and Woodwind Ensembles comming next week for my new Giga 3 system...that coupled with my trusty VL-70M and Oasys...well, you know... Hey, Merry Christmas to you! PS. Are you still working with your Oasys? Take care. James
I’ll never let go of my Oasys, it’s still living in an old G3/OS 9 machine. Every time I play it I’m amazed by the sound.

Merry Christmas to you too!

Please buy it then and let us all know how you get along

If you manage to recreate something so impressive, i'll buy your copy off you second hand.
Downloading the demo right now. Sorry though, if I manage to recreate something so impressive, I won't sell it.

This sounds like the 1st real step away from sampling. I think we are ready for a full PM Orchestral synth on the PC. It is the age of 2Ghz CPU, Native DSP farms, and Freeze. I think it is time. I think it would be great if Harm Visser could do a VST version of GPO. I have been clamoring for a VST VL-1 for years. Who will be first to do it?

I too would be interested to hear what people create with the demo. I'm really not convinced by the sounds. At times the demo's reminded me of Wendy Carlos switched on sound.

To a small degree this reminds me of the anticipation that Yamahas Lola produced. A great idea but not very practical. Either a voice sounds like a voice or it doesn't. There's not much leeway with this sort of instrument. The same goes for an orchestra emulation. I hope I'm proved wrong when people here start creating all these realistic versions of classical pieces.

My issue is with the sounds. I hope they can be improved.

wow, I'm quite impressed with this

I think it sounds a bit dull, and some phrases sounds bad, maybe is my poor knowledge with this plugin.

However, it's amazing!, no samples at all, and very low CPU consumption

The phrasing concept is very interesting.

I did this with the demo, is an excerpt from a work I just finished:

The installation is 45mb and the folder where I installed it has 9mb.

hmm.. I guess where are the rest of the files, they aren't hidden either.

Anyone figured it?

yeah man, no prob I'm just curious, I dont say this sounds "real" but is a really interesting approach.

I'd like to know where the sounds goes aswell. The VSTi dll is only about 3mb (the other stuff in the installation folder is documents, pdf, and the directx plug), but no sound content.

-SPYRO-: That sounds really good. :)

The Synful Orchestra help file contains a brief description of the synth technology, near the bottom, "RPM- Reconstructive Phrase Modeling."

The technique appears to be additive/resynthesis with the twist that transitions between notes are resynthised not just a single note itself. Then when it receives midi notes, there is a complex "look up table" to see which transition is appropriate for the note transition in question. This explains the nearly 1 sec delay when the delay option is selected.

Unfortunately, this means this technology is limited the same way as additive synthesis. At current CPU levels, the resynthesis technique is not particularly accurate, at least to my ears. Harmonic richness, which I guess is a sort of envelope around each partial, is missing.

So kudos for the idea of resynthesizing transitions, but this has a long way to go before it competes with sample-based technology, or some hybrid technology.

And the absurd asking price means this will quickly become a dead product, all in my opinion, of course.

I'm not sure how they made those demos with this product. Maybe I'm doing it an injustice by plugging it into standard midi arrangments, but most libraries show even a moderate amount of potential this way. This thing just doesn't impress me at all. The sounds are no better than you're average quality soundfont and I know I've got soundfonts on my PC that slaughter this thing. And that expression delay kills any hope of playing it live. I'm not sure I saw much difference in it 'on' or 'off' though. I don't see much market for it in the price range its in. There are much better offerings at much cheaper prices. The soundset is very limiting as well. There's like what 10 instruments? What the heck is that? I mean come on. That can't be right. I must have missed something surely. I still believe in physical modelling as the wave of the future, but I feel there has to be a solid foundation of good sounds under the hood and this one fails in that respect. You have to have some solid material to work with and I don't think there's enough here to make convincing songs with. I would love to know how they made those demos and how much time was actually spent on them. I'd especially like to see the midi files that they came from.

There’s a Midi file of the Beethoven quartet included in the installation. On my system it’s located in C:/Programs/Synful/Synful Orchestra/Examples/Beethoven Quartet.
