Rhino and Sytrus are two totally different synths and they both RULE!

Gol can be a little rude in public, but that darkness in his heart comes to life in Sytrus' sound :troll:

if anything gol is just a little over-enthusiastic about his own products. I happen to like that his additions to our forum. At least his posts don't sound like they were edited by the IL public relations department.

I think sytrus is a cpu hog and not very efficient. I would get Rhino.

Post

I own both and find them about the same.

Sytrus has several patches which use oversampling and unison, which can make the cpu get out of hand, but if you make the same patch in both synths, I find them to be equal in CPU use.

I find Sytrus to be a logical cakewalk to program, but I don't own Rhino so I can't compare the two.

One thing - I'd be cautious not to judge Sytrus by the included presets, which are for the most part extremely basic - most only have a few wheels turned and envelopes in action. It's possible of so much more

But when i´m crap at soundesign, I have to rely on the presets
Simple and repetive are my middle names

If IL hooked up with Bigtone for a bank or two I´d buy Sytrus in a heartbeat.

I bought Albino strictly on the merit of his soundbank for it. :D

no, when you buy Sytrus, you get FL, VSTi & DXi versions, and the upcoming 1.5.

As I only tried the demos for both of them briefly I was wondering what where the pro and cons for each synth. ?
I think i'm the only one who thinks that Synth has a cleaner sound!!!

Anyways, I think Rhino's one hell of a synth, and really what makes it very attractive are the following two:
1. On board FX (I think there's like 20 FX there)
2. Complexity of Patches

If that is what you are mostly after in a synth, I'd say Rhino beats Sytrus in that department easy.

To me however, the on board FX are mostly useless, as I have a bag of effects that I use - outside of the synth. And FL Studio makes working with effects & sharing them among other instruments, very easy, I guess I can call FL Studio an extension to Sytrus, not just my host.

Also the Complexity of patches to me is a draw back - since it makes that a bit unusable. I sold my license of Rhino for this specific reason: the complex patches did not fit my style, and the basic patches - well - can be recreated in synths like simsynth & wasp.

Take the effects & complex patches away, and the only thing that could matter is the sound quality, I feel like Sytrus has more character, fuller & richer sound.

I loved Rhino, but to me it was mostly a toy. If what you are looking in a synth is to hit the button, and have a beautiful melody pour out - Rhino's your synth. If you're looking for brick, mortar and lemon - Sytrus is your synth.

This is just my perspective, i'm sure there are those who feel completely different.

And Gol is great, I think he's doing a fine job, standing by his citrusy master piece.
