Howdy fellers. I finally buckled down and figured how to make the bass sample trigger randomly in VSampler, if anyone is interested. I posted the results over on Maz' phorum.

really want to give this a go. I assume i still need to convert files to sf2 format, then add the sfz file...steveholt wrote:Following Markleford's approach I updated the sfz mapping with 2 or 3 rotating samples per note (so none was more than a semitone transposed). The zip file now contains the simple and the new version - DoubleBass2.sfz.No, the notes are still at the correct pitch (thanks to transposing across keys), but they can come from any of a given pool of samples.

No need. Just drop the enclosed sfz file in the same directory as the samples and then open it with sfz. Easy as thatSamosa wrote: really want to give this a go. I assume i still need to convert files to sf2 format, then add the sfz file...

Hey man, I've got a really nice double bass instrument that i compiled for Short Circuit free by request of a client. I could send you the samples and the short circuit file. There's no velocity layering, but i sampled it at 4 different octave ranges....so it plays very nicely. I might release it on my site.....in the meantime, PM me or something and i'll send it over to ya.Totolitoto wrote:Hi all,
I'm working on a jazzy track and looking for a good (free) upright/double bass. I'm actually using plugsound free which is not bad but somehow lack of depth...
(Any suggestion, preferably in sf2 format)
peace!

no, i could upload it to my site...i just have to make sure the client i made it for doesn't mind. I'm not in contract with him or anything, but it was originally a "just for his use" kind of project. I'll talk to him though and see if i can make it a public release.realmarco wrote:or you could upload it to sp3d's site

Could you post (or PM me) a link to the .sxt file you made for this bass? Would save me quite a bit of time mappingMarkleford wrote:I mapped it in Reason's NN-XT sampler, laying out the individual samples for the soft notes and the hard notes to appropriate keys. But then I told NN-XT to disregard velocity, but rather alternate randomly between the two overlapping sets (rather than switching on velocity or cross-fading).mgreene wrote:That Vegas Caper tune is great - the bass sounds more authentic somehow than most samples on the market. How did you convert it?
Then comes my usual secret (but not so secret) trick: I extend the overlap for each note to the semitone above and below, but still tell the sampler to alternate between any zones that overlap. As such, any note I play will randomly trigger any of 6 different samples. This makes for realistic variety in human playing.

See, that's the problem with "embedded" patches (SF2, .gig, whatever).Kriminal wrote:Matbe i should just put it up and credit him, i can always take it down if its a prob, and im not re-ditributing the wavs (its kinda like a soundfont, in Orion format)
If I were to do a Kontakt, EXS or HALion patch I'd just do so and put the patchfile only up, supplying a link to the required samples.
If the author would think ít's time to stop sharing them I wouldn't run into any problems.
