I've read a few reviews in magazines and it seems that no reviewer was saying Reason3 did sound better or sounded the same. I felt for a review that was such a safe answer, you should be able to at least explain what you're hearing.

I've heard anything from the early Alpha versions of Reason3 and it sounded as killer to me as Reason 2.5 One of the first versions didn't had the new icons in the sequencer or the new file browser... or the new remote stuff... very cool by the way, because it did have the Combi already ))

I've had Reason 3 for a couple days now, and I really love it. I think things sounds fuller for the most part, and I'm having a lot of fun working with the Combinator. I own both Fruity and Reason, though, since they do different things for me.

I just got my upgrade 4 ours ago
The sound quality is actually better the bad aliasing and phasing in the low, and high keys in the subtractor is gone
The new sound bank is 100% better than the one in 2.5 + the wav output has got a dither option.
I also love the new handling of refills, where you can chose to create a device via patch loading (no more guessing which refill is for nn19 or nnxt ++)
The other thing i like about the new browser is that you can play the sounds while you browse and select them instanly.

Well that is all i have reached to explore so far

I have now had some more time to dig into the new soundbank cd
Damn the new factory soundbank is almost worth the upgrade alone....

It cover all musical aspects from ambient, hip hop to Trance... Everything (Even classic & pop)

For me, the combinator itself was worth the upgrade. The options allowed by using the buttons/knobs to affect any device in the combinator rocks, but the ability to condense a goddamn huge synth into one tiny space is a great workflow enhancement.

It still sounds like Reason though, which is what I like anyhow.

I was skeptical, but at the end of the day, Reason 3 is a good update. Maybe not perfect, but the new browser, Combinator, and mastering plugs make it well worth it IMO.

Funny how I didn't catch that until the fourth or fifth time I read it though.

T2 is another upgrade that, when looking at the surface seems like very little, but shines when you try it out. Not that I would know from direct personal experience with T2, but I suspect that to be the case, especially for the new piano roll.

As long as the factory sound bank and the Orkester bank's installed on the machine, you shouldn't have to insert the CD.

For some people, it seems to do this more often than for others, even when there is no apparent hardware change. Honestly, I wouldn't have an moral qualms with making a copy of the refill discs in the places where you'll be using them. Perhaps not legal, but there's often a difference between what you're legally allowed to do and what you reasonably should be allowed to do (a.k.a. fair use).

In the past, when I thought it might be a problem, I ripped an ISO image to disk so I could mount that if need be. I never needed it and eventually deleted it. I did install more RAM lately and had to re-enter my serial even.

I'd only really worry about it if you were playing live. Or traveling I guess.
