Yes it does. Didn't you get the mail?

Hey Torben, great job on this one. I can't wait to get to sidechaining in Sonar, and aside from the great compressors, EQs, and semi-modular approach, I absolutely love the gate.

Have you ever considered creating a "Silver Series" of plug-ins? I was thinking it would be neat to create a set of small easy to use EQs and Compressors that fall somewhere in between the Gold and Classic series (and make em cheap). For instance, something like a one knob opto compressor that would be custom tailored for bass. Then perhaps a different compressor that has set ratio buttons (pressing all could create an infinite ratio effect) with set attack and release times (no worrying about knees, etc on either of these). Or an EQ with some set but select frequency bands, etc.

I just think of all the classic gear we lust after now, and how simple they were to use largely in part of their limited options, but how great they could also sound in certain specific tasks. Plus I remember someone talking about how they liked Blockfish so much just because it was so easy to use with just a compression and speed knob to really worry about. I think it'd be neat to see your angle on things like these.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

I have thought about a Classic Pro Series!

If you do, my vote goes for a standalone of this noisegate.

Actually there is no separate limiter component AFAIK but I guess the two compressors can get pretty close to limiting if configured with that in mind.
Actually, there is a brickwall limiter as well. RTFM!

This has now become my 'go to' plug for everything. One of the true swiss army knives around, and works even for mastering, especially with the M/S routing. Even the EQ is M/S, yum! The sound quality and style is top notch.

I vote for thorough creative abuse!

I think I'm off to try some differential sidechain compressed cowbells. with a brickwall!

Sign me up for the Classic Pro Series Torben. Do you even know how much you rule?

Mr K you know not of what you speak - on this occasion anyway.

It says each compressor has a "limiting characteristic" it doesn't say the plugin has a "brickwall limiter". FFS!

Try for yourself - put GAC on our output bus and turn off everything except one compressor in serial config. If you set auto gain to "On" for that compressor as the manual states "Auto Gain does not ensure that the output won't go over 0dBFS." The final makeup gain must be adjusted manually.

Does this sound like a brickwall limiter to you?

GAC does not have a brickwall limiter and according to the developer it was never intended to have one.

What's the CPU hit on GAC compared to, say, Voxformer?

Post

i would vote for that silver or classic pro series :hihi:
i missed some pretty things like a gate or de-esser in this series. a "compacter" EQ or Compressor wouldnt be bad

Well it does in fact. Sure you can go split hairs about it not being a "proper" digital brickwall limiter. But you can also have analog characteristic brickwall limiters (that's where the term was first coined).

And this is damn near one as you can even use it as a distortion unit!

The bit where I was referring to as RTFM was "As an extra feature, both compressors have a limiting characteristic for input levels higher than 0dBFS."

Who carved the rule in stone that you have to have limiter as the absolute last thing in signal chain anyway?

No it's not. It happens for every new release and has been mentioned before with GPP-1. Plus I think it might be good for others to know that Torben tries to look out for existing customers. Might help sweeten the deal.
Just having a piss is all :P

Compared to most analog limiters the two compressors can work like limiters (low attack and infinity to one compression ratio) but there is not a real brick-wall limiter in it (meaning not a single sample goes over threshold). I most case’s you really do not need that when tracking and mixing. But for those who must have this feature we bundled it with the GPP-1 for another $30.00 (normal price $68.00).
