Actually they were much more intellegent than that, especially on Leprosy and Spiritual Healing..Chuck wasn't a f**king retard, you know..

Oh ya..

Not super-intelligent, but good music though. One of the better 'death' metal bands I listened to.

They got better musically over the years, that's for sure.

I think metal really started to get decent right around 1995 or so. Bands like Rotting Christ, Samael (Though their newest album was a bit underwhelming), Tristania and the like are all very good, IMHO. Bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth (Yes, I like Cradle. f**k you :D ) are very well recorded and produced as well.

Stuff like Cradle of Filth is such good pop metal that I'm amazed it hasn't caught on over here yet.

Oh, and very honerable mention goes to Violent Work of Art as best hybrid electronic metal band. They are unsigned and you can download all 3 of their albums from them completely free. Check them out at http://www.violentworkofart.com

I stand corrected. Violent Work of Art have just been signed as of TODAY. I doubt if they'll ever read this, but congratulations guys. You deserve it.
Excuse all the blood.

The worst and also the best metal band in the world is 'As I Die', my kid's band. They started a few months ago, still look for a bassist, the guitarrist sounds like a drummer, the drummer sounds like a steam machine and the overall result is total caos, but what do you expect, Prog rock? For God's sake, they are 17

Er, and did I mention my boy is the singer? That's my boy
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

heh..More then 17 years ago a Florida death metal anticipates a political firebomb in the same state:

I was completely out of the Deathmetal/Grindcore scene by like '92-'93..I think Cannibal Corpse marked the end of the good stuff for me..After that I moved into the hardcore/sludgecore stuff like Sleep, Eyehategod, Neurosis, etc..all that agro stuff was tons heavier to me than blastbeat with monster gurgle vocals..

I haven't read the thread but I assume that Linkin Park got bashed by a few... however, two things that I really like about them (or used to):

melody - they've come up with some of the best I've heard from any genre. listen closely to the original "with you" during the first verse. The background melody/harmony is uncannily beautiful

guitar - unless you've tried to recreate the timbre and scale of this sound accurately you can't appreciate it

Post

I never cared for Cannibal actually.

And no one has made fun of Linkin Park because this is a thread about METAL. Linkin Park has about as much to do with metal as catholic priests have to do with law abiding citizens.

Linkin Park are just a bunch of whiney dorks singing pop songs. That's not metal, hell, I have questions about whether or not it's even music.
Excuse all the blood.

I should clarify:

When I first heard Cannibal Corpse I knew my intrest in that scene was living on borrowed time if not already finished..

I liked Linkin Park's sound (not metal at all), unfortunately they did it waaaay (way) too much. Believe it or not it was really original at one point. On top of that it was the popular "white guy" sound for a couple years. That really sucks the soul out of a style of music for me. The same thing happened to blink 182.

Cannibal Corpse is still kind of a harsh example. I'm not really sure they are metal as much as a semi-controled experiment in noise. The gurgle-vocals in Cannibal are exactly the kind of thing I can't stand in a metal vocalist.

I can understand why Cannibal would put most anyone off of metal, but it's really not fair to judge bands like Violent Work of Art, Samael or Tristania by clumping them in with bands like Cannibal Corpse.

Metal has become much more varied lately. Dimmu Borgir employed a small orchestra for their last album, which was very cool, and very un-Cannibal Corpse. Tristania has some beautiful choral pieces and has 3 singers with 1 being the metal growler, one female semi-operatic vocalist, and 1 clean male vocalist who can hit really impressive bass notes. I swear the guy must have a pitch-shifter built into his chest or something. Samael has a really unique sound that I suppose I would call Rob Zombie meets euro-metal. That's not a very good description, but it's the best one I can manage.

Seriously, listen to Samael's Eternal before you judge. Or Passage, which comes with a bonus CD that has every song on the album redone on piano.
Excuse all the blood.

And please let me add another band to the list: Anal Blast/Anal c**t (I believe the two are the same band, but I might be wrong) I mean... no, I'm speechless. The tune 'Smell Your c**t' with Anal Blast is pure art. Really!

And seriously. Cheezy metal? Hey, I'm from heathen Norway after all! Dimmu Borgir anyone?

I'm trying to talk him into seeing King Diamond instead (since both of us seem to be in the mood to see a cheesy metal band), but he'd rather see Manowar. Insane! KD is really the only metal act I've always wanted to see live but never have.
Anyone that would choose Manowar over the KING needs to be beaten with a haddock.

Death's 'Pull the plug'
Or foresaw his own future. I read that his family had to make that choice.

The death albums NEVER did the live work justice.

If you want bad metal, just turn on the radio-hours and hours of the same tired bullshit.
