Bottom one BUT... I'd say send Mystahr a free copy and use his take on your cover

I like the first cover - it seems more cosmic (if that's the intention).

Also, I agree with cptgone. How about Cataforia. :)

I love threads like this (even tho it is mine) because all the artists get to show their work and I love seeing everyones ideas.

If I was doing a comedy album and wanted to convey my zanyness I would choose Voidoid Surrealist cover  Very funny, I would probably put my face there instead of the loser he chose, but since I do spacey ambient chillout experimental german school electronic music :? I want to be a bit more serious in my design :hihi:

Armoor's design is real nice and looks very classy and in the style that is similar to cd art I have seen before. My music has a more organic quality (I hope) so the geometric quality may not reflect the music within. Nice design just the same.

Mystahr's design is also very good and has alot of the qualities I would look for in a professional design. Love the stars that are poking through on the right which reflects the original image I chose. Not sure about the font style tho. I would probably pick something simpler. Way to go Mark, great design.

Image

phz's design is also very nice (lot's of artistic musos at KVR) The design has the original image there and is closer to #2 than #1. I like the colors chosen, maybe soften them a little. The melted paint is a nice effect. Again I would choose a simpler font, just my taste in font styles.

Image

Way to go everyone, alot to think about. I will probably do the design myself (I am a visual artist) and I have always wanted to design album covers. Can't pass the oportunity to do it. 8)

Seems that #1 is the favorite so far. I am still leaning towards #2. Not sure why (as I said before it has a more abstract quality, maybe that is it).
I have another design I worked on today that I like.

Image

This one is somewhat more fuzzy, I may try to work on it in Freehand (not very familiar with the program) because you can enlarge without seeing pixels and the color choices are larger than in photoshop.

I like the artwork for the back so that may stay for now, I like the non color approach there because I can view the fonts more clearly. But I may try a few alternatives.

All the images I have chosen are from NASA photo archive. and there are hundreds to choose from so I may be experimenting in the days to come.

Oh and I have two designs for the disc art #1

#2

I am partial to #1 but as this is an ongoing process that may change as I add more options 8)

i like Armoor's version best. i don't think your art says 'organic' any more than armoor's so that argument to me is irrelevant.

between your designs i like number one. i like simple, but feel that it is a bit too simple. to me it looks like a simple image snatched off some space site (and you should make sure its a public domain shot) with standard font text. about 10 minutes work (no offense).

what needs most attention imho important is the font. it's a standard off-the-shelf font and well used. i'd convert it to shapes so you can tug it around a bit and give it some individual character. if that's too messy for you then at least use your cd version on the cover - its more readable.

BTW, I hope you don't get to hate your project name, Sonicforia. I know I've come to hate mine, Sonic Love.

Everyone's called Sonic Something nowadays and the pun doesn't work out well. IMO.

Wish I had come up with Cat Power!
I think I can agree here it sounds good but it can get overused. I am considering a title change. My inclination is towards Sonaform. But nothing is set in stone. 8)

a couple of other things: you should position the text so that the distanse from the top is the same as the distanse to the right margin. you name could also do with a twist. add some mystery by making it "nyb rainier" or "nab rainier". also align that text to the same right-side position as the title. this is basic layout and will make the text subconsciously more pleasing

Armoor's design is nice. I don't want to copy his style and I really want to do this myself. I agree that #1 is almost just a straight photo, slightly augmented in Photoshop. It does have a nice quality but it is too much like a photo. I want it to be less obvious that it is a photo if you can see that. That may be why I like #2 better.

It actually took me more time to do this than 10 minutes but I agree it is not that much different than the original image. The main reason that I am using space photos (they are from Nasa and are public domain ) is because my music has space themes and I like there to be a conection between the art and the music... Thanks for the suggestions. 8)

the font stands out too much for my tastes.. looks tacky imo.. needs to blend more with the design (again imo)
