Well in my experience this technique works pretty well for most orchestral instruments. String sections work well but brass and woodwind sections a little less so.
I think the click problem would not be present if the attack envelope was slowed just slightly.
This is how GPO does it. It is programmed with an alternate layer which has all it's samples with their start point moved into the attack so it starts just after the intitial onset of the attack. This layer has it's own envelope adjusted for a smoother legato and the Kontakt is set up for a musician to use a footswitch to play this layer instead of the 'normal' layer.
I think this might work great for the Miroslav if it is somehow possible in ST2.
Varying attack times dynamically is good for percussion sounds to get a little variation in attacks.
Clicks don't seem to be a problem with the libraries who make use of this feature in Kontakt. The envelopes are just adjusted differently.
I have been employing this technique long before GPO and it works pretty well much of the time.
Yes, using an envelope you can smooth the a click but then when someone puts the attack to zero it can be heard. There are other ways to do it to achieve the result you're after though at least from our end. I've been experimenting with a few things to see what extra tricks can be done.
