Then you should be worried about how to feed yourself and your family and not buying plugins.

try the voxengo EQs (although they are listed here), CurveEQ also works with convolution (you can add analog flavours to your sound if you want), and has many more graet features. If I had to chose to pick only one EQ: this is the one. But you need a fast PC to use as a track EQ. But since money is not a problem for you...

For what its worth, they do offer academic pricing which (I believe) is a 50% discount....

I can't wait for their Compressor Squeezetone. (Well actually I can since I've got Ozone3 and PSP's Mix Pack & VW, but still)
I really think HT sounds excellent on mids (warm as you said), where Sonalksis has a more telephone like sound. But considering the small difference in price (150 for HT vs 175 - when bundled with the comp - for Sonalksis), the quality of low cut filter and the hit on the cpu, I would definately go for :) Sonalksis.
yer but, sonalksis doesnt really compare in quality to hydra imo. To make it really obvious try doing a big high end boost on both and listen to which sounds the harshest. for me sonalksis sounds indentical to waves ren in the highs... really harsh, and similar everywhere else too, jus a bit louder in the lows, so what?

Makes no sense to frown on license transfers. If you buy a license it's yours, if you are done with it, let it be someone else's.
