Roland (Built like a tank. Still using a D50 from 1987 as masterkeyboard. It has 64 memories for patch send organized in 8 banks and 8 buttons for each bank, a feature missing from all modern keyboards)

The Kraft thing is that if i'm actually grilling, I make my own sauce, but I prefer a vinegary sauce to a sweet one, and so Kraft is best as an everyday condiment to me. I use it where ketchup, which I don't really like much would be used. I've only been in Chicago on train layovers, so I don't know Sweet Ray's. Is it sweet or vinegar?

I've been thinking that too.

But it seems to me that hardware is more on the "I'll but again" list than software.......for the most part......

Good point Emdot... For all the grief and pain Yamaha has given me, I'd buy them again for some masochistic reason too. Roland second, but their stuff is really hit or miss I find? I love the SH-5, but hate the SH-3a, love the SP-808EX, hate the DJ-70MkII and so on.

As for software, I'd have to say if Steinberg came out with something like 'WaveStudio', I'd be front in line.
Native Instruments, though again - it's kinda 'hit and miss' with them as well.

And Yamaha has not built a track record with its Steinberg holding yet, so it's hard to tell about that. I just found it ironic. (And rather a good sign for Steinberg.)

I must say, though, on the hardware side Roland has really impressed me. Very little problems with any of its gear other than dirt on fader contacts, which after 20 years is understandable.

Like any company, Roland may be hit or miss on the usefulness of their products but I own their:

JX-3P
TR-606
TR-707
MC-303
RS-202

And I know people who own their:

Alpha Juno2
D-50

And none of them have suffered more than dirty contacts. So as far as reliability, I'd say Roland has a damned good track record.

Well, it's not "Vinegar Baby Ray's"

there's a few varities, i stick with the original flavor...
They used to have Mike Royko's (famous Chicago newspaper columnist) Riboff and i think Sweet Baby Ray won the first one,he had/has a rib joint on the south side, there's a few good ones...he then began marketing the sauce, not sure how far the distribution goes....

I also like to grill, charcol and my dwindling supply of homegrown plumwood are mandatory, I do a mean teryaki (sp?), never tried a proper BBQ sauce...I've seen some cool one's like you descrbe....i got some St. Louis style rib cuts in the freezer, pm me with some ideas, if you like, i'll try 'em in a few days...

i have a System 100, the one with the keyboard and expander, somewhat semi-modular...i love the sound of the oscs themselves, but the filters ain't so hot, the adsr is weird, not enough range in the attack, the s&h is just plain goofy, you can't use it in freerun, the keyboard restarts it....the patching is not as flexable as a 2600 or MS20....but i love my MPU-101 midi>cv, easy to use, never a problem....i control the Roland, a Doepfer setup, and two Pro One's with the keyboards removed.....

of the other Roland stuff I own,Phrase Lab 09 and SE-50 fx, ihave mixed feelings also...it seems their os' are at least a little awkward and their manuals can be very cryptic, too many hard to use/figure out functions...where Yamaha excels...the DX stuff is very easy to program for the complex nature, the SPX stuff is a breeze to use also...Roland has some innovative and good sounding stuff and some good value, just not as consistant as , say, Yamaha....(i will leave out Yamaha drum machines)

concrete fx, zynewave, massiva, wusik.com, vember audio, vember audio ( had to mention them twice, that's how good ), EFM, sonicbytes, sonic charge, and Jeff Mckintock (synth edit)

yamaha is just great in general. No other company that I know of has such a wide variety of products yet still keeps a great quality.
