Anyone know how long it takes for Ableton to send out serial numbers??? This is not an upgrade order. I'm a new customer and not a very happy one at the moment.
Live 5 just released

Yeah, what's up with that? I ordered Live 5 about 10 hours ago and I am still waiting for a serial number to use the product right away. This is the longest I've ever had to wait for a serial number. It's killing me too because I finally have some time to work on some music this weekend and the clock keeps ticking towards Monday with no Live 5!!!

I think because there has been such an overwhelming demand for Live 5, that the Ableton staff has warned people, on their message forum, that they are probably going to be about 3 weeks behind in delivering serial numbers.Triphop wrote:Anyone know how long it takes for Ableton to send out serial numbers??? has the CPU usage improved from 4 to 5 , i found 4 a CPU hog compared to cubase sx 3.
If its improved i'll upgrade.
i also want operator but i won't buy it for the simple reason i think it should be free.If they release a synth you pay for then it should work on other hosts , just my opinion.
PS is operator still a CPU hog too ?

I've gone back from V4 to V3 instead of upgrading to V5.
Does that make me a LUDDITE
I now use -
4 VST instrument pulg ins only.
Kubik/Foorius/KarmaFXModular and ReaktorSession (when Ttoz gets back from the states (and no I have no intention of saving up for Reaktor5 either)).
PlogueBidule
Live 3 - internal fx(I should have stayed with 3 IMHO)handles all audio duties not always doing alot of warping etc with it either.
Reason 3 - nnxt / rex / redrum / maelstrum / sub + Custom combi patches. (updated payed for by other half)
P5V2 - Dimension / Psyn 2 / Velocity + internal FX
(sold Audition to get P5, handles all midi duties)
Audacity - sample editing (more than adequate for my needs)
Smex Plug-ins - (well who wouldn't or shouldn't)
Pluggo - best mangling bang for yer buck. (Turns reason Combi patches into an el cheapo Reaktor lite IMHO)- thank God for family and thanks for the B'day present my lovely Mum/Dad/Brother and many Sisters.
Not a shot at Ableton but I'm totally over having the latest of everything (usually a load of everything I don't really need either) and a folder full of bloatware I never needed in the first place.
My handful of hardware served me well for many years so I am now applying the same logic to music making.
Since going back too V3 I'm actually getting work done as it handles audio really well I'm basicly only working in arranger view anyway.
I'm sure Live 5's great and all but I don't need it .
Can't afford it either (unless I rob a bank).
It aint what you use it's how you use it anyway.
I'm sure they'll get a bazillion new users HOST hoping with this version none the less.
It offers a unique ergonomy and workflow that other hosts don't in many respects.
Looking forward too hearing tracks done in V5 also and how people utilise the new features none the less.
Best wishes Ableton you've been programming and bug squashing your asses off the last month or three.
Live 5 is just not for me.

Free update is extended to Live 4 customers who register by August 15th.braj wrote:You may not be eligible for a free upgrade thenttoz wrote:logging in to my account? oh, ive never actually registered or authorized live yet, i am waiting for my new machine.I believe the wording is 'onlock' by the release date. You should write Ableton a nice email and fax them your receipt.

According to Ableton's official line, L5 is slightly lower CPU consumption than L4, which they thought was low anyway.
I found CPU consumption in L4 very high, but getting lower with each little update, and very reasonable by 4.1.4. However, on my system there is a major noticeable improvement in CPU in 5 - very low/efficient indeed. Several other Live users on the beta test found the same.
Also of course there is now a very flexible Freeze function in Live 5

for me live 5.0.1 has about the same cpu usage as 4.1.4., which is to say totally awful. should've got a centrino instead of a g4 two years ago
never stop loving music.

Yeah, I was wondering if the people that are seeing increased performance are using Centrinos.zion15 wrote:for me live 5.0.1 has about the same cpu usage as 4.1.4., which is to say totally awful. should've got a centrino instead of a g4 two years ago

there's no way i'll have money to upgrade my setup before summer/fall 2006 at least. hope i'll have money to get a decent centrino lappy or perhaps even one of those intel macs if they're out... starting to get fed up with constant freeze-unfreeze after two years
never stop loving music.

Live 5 contains a new demo song called Distortion which features NINE instances of Operator, plus seven Ableton effects inserts. On my laptop the CPU meter shows a hit of around 14-17% when playing back this demo.CANE CREEK wrote: PS is operator still a CPU hog too ?
