You can never be sure where some malwhere comes from because of some hosting sites add links and other, sites that may have been hijacked. Some malware pepole hijack DNS-servers and what looks legit is phony, also there is malware that can get on you system that can cause misdirect, then there is the Google thing, which is mispell and your in malware hell. Plus the bithday card link in an email from somone you do not know. I had a nasty one too and posted its problems http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=91524
In also gives some hints on what to avoid as well

I agree with sXeSkiddz2005. We have all worked on finding links to software as a service to others. Let us know what link/links you had problems with. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. KVR is great and sXeSkiddz2005 has worked hard on the thread to gather some great information that probably can't be found elseware.

Furlan wrote:I'm new to this forum. I began to download free VST amp simulators in the thread entitled: "The Complete VST Amp Sim List." I ended up downloading the Aurora and Nail.exe malware programs, along with a host of other assorted, nasty adware, pop ups, and browser hijackers. I hope the original poster did not insert a link to this nasty stuff, but I have just spent the last five hours trying to rid my computer of this stuff, and its still not gone. I suggest that the forum moderators investigate, delete the thread, and ban whomever is responsible for inserting a link to malware.
I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that we DON'T want the link deleted. Rather, let us know which sites caused you grief, so that we can rectify the problem. The thread is a great help to many of us.

I haven't had any problems either. :D
