I just got a reply from PSP - they are going to have a more functional demo available following the actual release - I was hoping that is what was going to happen! Right now they say you can only mouse the threshold and the other params are set via the presets...on the pre-release demo. Thought I'd pass that on...

...I also have a question in to PSP to see if they are going to extend to discount too - so I can try the functional demo first...bmanic wrote:This is good to hear. As it is now the demo is mostly useless.

Please notice that it is the pre release demo. Less limited demo version will be available after releasing full version.
Processing stops every 20 seconds. Only Threshold knob is mouse operated, all other parameters can only be changed by switching presets.

From what I heard it's not according to my compressor taste regardless of the proud price. I'll stay with my trusted RCL and VW.
And yes, the demo doesn't make it easy to make a positive decision.
Best wishes, FRitz

Ive just compared the demo PSP mastering compressor to the Neodynium...in the demo stage the PSP does not hold a candle next to Neodynium. I hear very transparent sound with PSP but the demo is so useless in functionality it is not even close in comparison to Neodynium

Wow - I don't post here much, but I really had to chime in. It is hard to evaluate such a static demo, but it is obvious to my ears that the compressor quality is to die for. What do I mean: the multitudes of fine detail and transparency in the sound. Finally, a real compressor, and better than anything TDM or RTAS (very initial comparison) we have heard. As for VW, it is not so transparent (I agree), and is best used as an effect. But the real PSP gem will always be the Mix Saturator. No eq or compressor (or even Tape Bus plugin) can even come close to what Mix Sat can do. If you ran clean signal through a rack of vintage 1073's, and then laid stereo completely onto 2" high domain 5 times in a row (minus the noise, of course), then you might have something akin to mix sat. Big big sound.

I wonder how it compares to Kjaerhus GCO-1 Golden Compressor. There's quite a price difference between the two. PSP MasterComp is $200-$240 USD (depending on whether you get the pre-order) and GCO-1 is only $118 USD. Plus there are the cheaper Kjaerhus gold series compressors for even less money.JeffSanders wrote:Has anyone here tried the new PSP Mastercomp yet??
I need to play with this awhile longer...a bit pricey...but my initial impression?
Is PSP MasterComp 2x as good as GCO-1?
Hmm....

So is this basically an evolution from Vintage Warmer or something completely new? It looks very similar but "souped up".
