That quite simply is not true and you know it. You're forgetting that we've had the same discussions over and over and over. Theory has been discussed to death all throughout the forum, there is almost definitely more musical knowledge outside of this thread in other threads than this singular one.nuffink wrote:Despite, or maybe because of the elevated noise floor, there's more hard musical knowledge in this thread than in most of the rest of the place put together.Amberience wrote:If this is passion then I summise that you don't need passion in music.vurt wrote:Amberience wrote:Can I just ask one question - how is all this bickering helping music?
its called passion i guess.
Why do you bother?

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

you mean like uhm...say everything else?...if it's not of interest to you, you want to disrupt it?Amberience wrote:That quite simply is not true and you know it. Well, the argument is ok.nuffink wrote:Despite, or maybe because of the elevated noise floor, there's more hard musical knowledge in this thread than in most of the rest of the place put together.Amberience wrote:If this is passion then I summise that you don't need passion in music.vurt wrote:Amberience wrote:Can I just ask one question - how is all this bickering helping music?

But the belittling, name calling and rudeness do get sort of tiresome.
I mean, can't you tell someone they are wrong without calling them an idiot?

Well, here we go anyway:
@killvehicle: Indeed. The straight 8ths, while cool sounding, don't prove anything other than that you can achieve cool results by playing triplets in one rhythms and 8th in another (and that's a very common polyrhythmic technique).
@Hink: it all started as "swing is triplets without the middle note", I've since shortened it to "triplets" since it's understood (among the arguing parties) what I mean... but yes, you're correct.

Well I could go the funny route or get serious...Hink wrote:not tremendously no, so why bother?Amberience wrote:I'm disrupting it?
Funny: I bother because I am bored.
Serious: The swing vs triplet itself is a disruption of the original purpose of this thread. A discussion started to revolve around a new topic of trilpets.
So it's not that wacky to maybe start a dicussion revolving around the topic I posed - which could interpret loosely as "does discussing music actually help it?"
It could be said that a lot more comes from doing. I wouldn't agree with that 100% though. I tend to think a lot more comes from doing and then discussing, as opposed to the other way round.
But hey... I gave everyone the funny option.
