ONE THING I WANT TO GET STRAIGHT NOW IS_______
Ok catanya has not got chord recognition.

So seven aliens say if you play say C,F,A, it will play C,F A. Still a Chord
So here is the deal if I am going to purchase catanya.
Can I program my own patterns without Catanya arpregiating to a preset pattern.
I mean fill in the dots and it will play them according to your tempo.
After that put a progression of chords in and have your own sequence or melody.
If you put a bass line in another incidence of catanya thing would match.
Is this possible in Catanya

why not download the demo and test it?

Right now it behaves like a phrasing arpeggiator playing off incoming MIDI notes. So, if you play a C chord, it will arpeggiate those notes.
Basic stuff - except that they've built up a library of sequences based on musical style.

Ok, what i am saying is ---Can you put a few notes in (orange squares)and just have them sounding as you put them in or will they making an arpegiated sound.
So if I made my own pattern in the grid ,I could then put chords in the time line of my Sonar or Fl studio and have my own melody sequence like a backing band.
I do not want to put a few notes into the grid and it runs away with a arpegiated sequence like something out of Dr Who!!!
I hope somebody can see where I am coming from.
I would like it so that you can have three incidences of the program to create your own backing following the chords that you have selected.

I haven't tested using multiple instances, but I presume it would work - but probably only when pointing each Catanya module to separate synths.
You CAN edit the 'orange squares'.

Yes, so in your host you just load/perform/draw in some chords in the MIDI object/track editor, and point the channel to Catanya, and it takes over with the arpeggiation. It would be up to if/how your host can point to multiple instances of Catanya running in parallel.

So I assume then arpegiation in catanya is forward motion and reading the notes you have entered not jumbling up the notes you have entered to give arpegiation to flower it up.

Have you downloaded the demo yet?
That will show you first-hand.

It's a combination pattern sequencer and arpeggiator that responds to live playing or pre-recorded chords.

There are also videos, so go ahead and jump in.

Here's about 5 minutes of noodling with (the problematic) NI Akoustik Piano. I just followed the video example and hit record in Live while randomly selecting a different piano arpeggiator style roughly at the end of every 2 bars.

good, basic example... probably took about 10 seconds to set it up and play/record it in real time.

Well. It'll take 10 seconds next time. The loop of chords is too short. Had I been a bit more adventurous, it might sound less repetitive. It's hard to "get out" of an arpeggiated piece. Sets the tempo very high from the outset.

I think I'm learning about music - albeit back-to-front with all this technology (I make websites and music is my new hobby). The books I read on music go through all the theory and always end with "and now you can make your own tune". What the? So it seems we can all sound [professional if we come up with the right tune.

So I'm stuck with toys like Live and Catanya for now (which is a lot of fun). I'd like to see even more presets. There are only 8 trumpet presets and they are all Samba-style  , but grabbing just one little arpeggiated bit gave me a nice trumpet flourish - something to start a piece with.

It's good fun, but I suspect 5000+ presets would be the go. You quickly run out once you pick an instrument and style. No doubt, they could be bought later on or existing ones modified pretty easily.

Does nobody use bootcamp? :)
I sometimes wish PC had MacOS emulation.

Sure do! But Bootcamp is no good for running Logic or DP… ;-)
