Have to say, it is refreshing to not have to listen to bullshit shred guitar lead lines in these demos. A few leads might be good, but pleaseee..... for the love of all that is good and holy.... leave the shred to other companies!!

I'd be curious to hear him play by himself with just the amp and the paul without any possible outboard gear eq/comp/etc. I'd also love to be able to see how things are adjusted on that guitar, how his callouses are and (uh oh, oh yes he's going there) what kind of cable hes using
THEN I'd love to have this soldano amp and try and reproduce that sound
Betcha I'll get pretty close

Pretty sure there are no tricks involved at all.hibidy wrote:I'd be curious to hear him play by himself with just the amp and the paul without any possible outboard gear eq/comp/etc. I'd also love to be able to see how things are adjusted on that guitar, how his callouses are and (uh oh, oh yes he's going there) what kind of cable hes using

The clip is from a German TV program, no overdubs, they broadcasted the complete live gig.
A good LP with Alnico 2 PAF style PUs, a Klon set for mild boost, that's it.
Possibly a tiny bit of verb/delay from the FOH, not much if any at all.
Warren's basic settings on his SLO are:

nothing out of the ordinary, really.
And he had the bright cap removed, the famous Warren Haynes mod.
The pedals back then were Klon, Rotosphere, Discombobulator (sp?), Boss OC-2, Cry Baby. Only the Klon on SoulShine.
I can get pretty close to that tone with my JMP and Klon, though the mids are slightly different, granted.
One thing heips a lot, actually using the guitar's controls, defaulting to maybe 5 or 7.
There is no substitute for Warren's fingers, I'm afraid.
So go for it, hibidy, but use earplugs so you don't hear the neighbours complain.
Cheers,
susiwong
Oh, forgot the secret magic ingredient :
Planet Waves string winder.
Cables, too, btw.
His tech seems to be mighty impressed.

The reason why I got a Soldano, other than a great deal on it. It can go from clean to smokey blues to heavy metal all with your guitar's volume knob.

Here's a live long winded dark Gov't Mule blues type jam from a few years ago. I use roughly the same settings on my Soldano Hot Rod 50 as Warren does, with 2x12 Soldano cab with v30s. Mid 90s Les Paul, no overdrive pedals, just guitar into amp. All instruments individually mic'd, bass (Fender P-bass into Ashdown amp>DI out) and keys DI'd, into a cheap PA mixer into a Line 6 UX into computer. My amp is mic'd with a Shure SM53 into Presonus Eureka preamp with light eq and mild copression from it, then into the PA mixer. The mixing was done on the fly in a basement jam area with only a quick check on some headphones for levels. So my guitar is sitting lower in the mix as a result, but still cuts through nicely. You can hear the same basic tone Warren gets with minimal effort. Even if this was a sloppy improvised type jam. When jamming live, I like to use minimal or no pedals most of the time, so I concentrate more on playing.

Yeah, what's up with the Soldano clip? It sounds like someones playing iFart through a DS-1.
All of the clips have that old AT-2 hissy/fizzy/chalky top end that was improved in AT-3(although still present). The 120 is un-listen-able. Quit whatever that limiting/maximizing crap your doing to those clips. They are terrible.
The The Nu-Tron is interesting though. I'll probably pick that up right off the bat.

If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

You're right, that's more like the typical Soldano character.metalifuxx wrote:The reason why I got a Soldano, other than a great deal on it. It can go from clean to smokey blues to heavy metal all with your guitar's volume knob.

And you can hear that tone doesn't go buzzsaw on the occasional double stops.
Pity the guitar is not louder, but hey, that's how it goes.

I've been on enough Beta teams to know exactly what the problem is with amp sims IMHO...you end up with a majority of shredders and thrashers doing all the talking and then "tone" becomes all about how to sound like shite (palm muted chugging and crap).
Developers...please, listen to Haynes and others for tone inspiration...the thrashers will find a way to f**k it up to their liking, so they'll end up happy anyway!!

Not a Soldano, I'm afraid, but a Marshall emulation of that Haynes tone, kinda.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?z15jlo7782s3107
Soulshine middle solos, taken from a rehearsal playback I programmed/played a year or so ago to audition a few singers.
Not meant for publishing, please excuse the unfinished state.
4 guitars, all JMP-1 direct to Cubase, each track is a mix of the JMP-1's compensated out and the straight out with a cab impulse.
clean rhythm and 1st lead : 2005 Tokai 335 with Duncan Pearly Gates
crunch rhythm and 2nd lead : 2003 LP Std., also with Pearly Gates
Usual DAW sweetening, a touch of Pultec, some epicVerb, some Cooper Time Cube on the guitars, nothing big.
No stomp FX at all.
Shame I couldn't use my 1976 JMP and Klon at decent volume, that would've been a lot closer, also easier to play since you don't have to struggle for those long sustaining notes, on the contrary
.
Oh well ...
Cheers,
susiwong
Btw, this is along the lines of the original Allmans version, live it grew more Mule-ish as the other guitar player didn't want to learn his parts, so he played the clean bar chords and I tried to cover the rest

Listen to what guitarzan said.hibidy wrote:I wish I could shred. I certainly have the equipment for it.....just not the fingers, the discipline or the musical ability
Take a good tone and make it shredder ...
Wait, wasn't that an old Beatless tune ?
Never mind.
Lol,
