STUDIO ONE (VERSION 2.0.5)

One instance of GR in NON "hi" mode and ONE instance of recabinet = 20% cpu

REAPER (VERSION 4.2.1)

Same exact thing but WITH "hi" on , 2.7% CPU.
are you really so naive to think that one plugin alone (well ok, 2 plugins, same deal) can eat 8x less CPU in a sequencer?
To start with, where are you reading the % from?

Of all of the things I've read in this thread, nothing has been as DICKLESS as that statement.

Enjoy your ignorance.

And yet another reason why I haven't touched FL in years ;)

I'm really starting to love this thread, bring it on. :)

Damn, should have known he was a moderator and can't be muted :tantrum:

I surely ignore the secret to magically speed up a plugin 8x, yes.

So you won't reply as for where you're reading CPU usage from?

That would surely have made it easier for you to spread your propaganda.
Surely no 2 hosts are equal as for multithreading, but to make such ridiculous claims when only 2 plugins are involved.. If it's any true, it can only be a bug in the one that's so much slower.

It really would not matter which reading he got it from...

Here I got AT3.7 up on S1v2...reading from its own meter=17%
Here Reaper shows same as=3%

Here I get AT3.7 up on S1v2...reading from task manager=15%
Here Reaper shows up in Task Manager as=2.5%

But since all meters are just monitoring first processor.... :hihi:

@hibidy, A single instance isn't going to let you know much.
Also, the CPU from your system in Windows is the one you want to look at.
Basically some DAWs report massive CPU use out of a single instance but keep on being able to pile on VSTi's. This is the case with both Logic and DP in OSX, and Live for instance reports light CPU use in it's own meter compared to the one in OSX. So Live will crap out at what looks like 80% CPU in Live but is reading over in OSX. Conversely both DP and Logic would use 95% of the CPU at 6 instances but still be able to add two more instances of Massive in my case.

I have tested 3 daw's on the mac platform running the same song (a very large, real world song which used a combination of audio & software instruments, native and UAD plugins lots of tracks (compression, reverb, amp sims, delay, filter effects, etc), lots of effects busses, automation, etc. in Cubase 6, Logic pro 9 & DP 7.

Logic pro was the most CPU efficient by far in my experience, as it was the only DAW that could successfully playback the song. Cubase and DP got 85% of the way there, but I couldn't load nearly as many insert plugins as I was able in Logic.

Some people just don't get it. Surprising a developer that works within windows almost exclusively doesn't get it.

"hint"

Most hosts (all the ones I've used) have meters that tell you what is being used.

I mean seriously, I you read what I said, you'd understand that it's obvious that different people get different results ESPECIALLY different hosts on different platforms ;)

K? Is that enough? I mean, I shouldn't have peeked under the hood but "machinesworking" had to make the comment about reaper users not being truthful and.......

Well there you go.

NOW, I will bow out permanently. Enjoy whatever conclusions you wish to make up or accusations you wish to make.

I've got music to make and far less "stressful" things to do :)

Not really (although it's certainly useful to know what has been used), as the only meter that would be valuable is the one on which 100% would mean underruns/crackling. But of course, only the sequencer can have that, and it may not provide any.
A multithreaded app & a single-threaded one could show the same % in the task manager, but the multithreaded one would be able to approach 100% in the taks manager until underruns, while the other wouldn't reach 25% on a quad core (since in the task manager, 100%=all cores used at 100%, which a single-threaded app will never be able to do)

Btw, something else to remember is to turn off CPU energy saving features, very important.

There is your biggest mistake, those meters are certainly not all equal (at all).

& seriously, if it was that easy, I'd just make my meter always display 1%, making it the most efficient ever..

Start stacking up stuff until you get audio underruns, this is the -only- way to monitor this properly.

It ended up being about Reaper..they always blow up.... :help: :hihi:

As for my test I'm doing it this afternoon...watch for it...

Carry on argying about platforms, DAWs and other such trivium.... :help:
