What do you think the chances are that Waves suddenly will switch to serial protection and no-login/account-demo?

How long did PID take to reply with this price? thanksftech wrote:You and me both, Brother!rasmusklump wrote:I like this synth very much and just bought it for $69 at Plugindiscounts.
There will be people who whine about PID using google wallet, but I
for one appreciate their exchange rates over those of the
all conquering paypal

I need another synth like a hole in the head
It will be interesting to hear what the bottom line is after all the initial excitement has died down...
I'm thinking that there's nothing in Element that can't be put together on any number of soft synths...
How many of these things do we really need ?
I want to dig deeper into what I've already got and another synth would just give me a BIG FAT headache

Well, being Waves, they would not be switching to serial CP even if every other dev would completely do away with any CP.
But seriously, I think Waves is actually one of the companies that has seen the light. They were completely anal with their licensing and precious i-lok protection. And they could afford to be, because they were first to market and a kind of standard of quality that stood above everything else. This is not the case anymore and there are tons of quality plugins out there, so they need to adapt or die.
Waves is doing it pretty well at the moment. Yes, their plugins are probably overpriced because they still expect you to pay the famous brand tax, but they have done some good sales recently that actually makes them a viable option for hobbyist too.
And one of the things I can not understand is why do they get all the badmouthing here because of the WLC. Compared to i-lok or eLicenser WLC is a pinnacle of customer friendliness. Of course it still is annoying and nowhere close to serial or reg-key like IL does it, but at least you do not have to shell out extra 75$ for a usb stick you have no need or use. And there is no danger that you have to wait for weeks to get your software re-activated if something brakes.
In general though devs should really contemplate on the fact that everything beside serial or IL style reg-key already makes their software worse than a cracked version.

Because it's easier to bitch about something based on ignorance than it is to educate yourself. Case in point: this thread.robotmonkey wrote: And one of the things I can not understand is why do they get all the badmouthing here because of the WLC.
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Deepmind 12D | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

I don't do initial excitement myself.digitalboytn wrote:It will be interesting to hear what the bottom line is after all the initial excitement has died down...
Element is just fine but nothing overly amazing. Hey its just another synth, it's not the second coming of Elvis.

What do you expect after i have used it a bit more than one day and just made the purchase today.pdxindy wrote:Not one peep in this thread yet I thinkCrackbaby wrote:Sound demos ... please!!!
On the other hand: Get the demo and try yourself. It's fully functional for 7 days which also includes loading/saving your own presets.
Anyway most comments in this thread seems to be bitching about the synth from people who mostly have not even tried the demo version.
You have to hardly search for comments from people who really tested the synth.
I'm also new to this. Works like a charm so far.robotmonkey wrote:

Maybe some did not notice but Element got and additional oscillator, the "Sine Mod" oscillator. This knob adds a sine oscillator that does FM with OSC1.
The FM knob in OSC2 controls the FM amount of OSC2 with OSC1. With the SineMod and the FM in OSC2 you could do some interesting FM stuff.
another interesting feature is the Phase modulatiojn ("PhM") knob in OSC2. This controls the amount by which the phase of OSC 2 is modulated by OSC 1.
Like most parameters in Element those FM/PhM values could be modulated by e.g. an envelope, LFO or the Step sequencer.
Sine waveforms like in the oscillators of element also are no standard in all VA synths AFAIK. I have checked several of my synths but this seems to be rare.
Some synths with Sine wave are e.g. TimewARP 2600, Dune, Diva (in the OSC2 of the Jupiter module), Sylenth1, Largo and Saurus. Anyway many others don't seem to have it.
Another nice thing is that Element shows the shape of the current waveforms, including the influence of e.g. FM or PhM values. This display also updates during playing if some modulation is involved. It also seems to change based on the note you play so it acts more like an oscilloscope.
