Yes, that's how it's *meant* to work. However on some occasions, I've had the exact same computer I was using suddenly get recognized as a new computer by Waves, forcing me to "recover" the licenses. Fortunately this hasn't happened more frequently than once a year so far.This is meant in case the device that had the license file on it(some disk volume or usb drive) is broken or the file is lost.

Well that sucks. All the more reason to be more lenient on the licensing.
Izotope is a LOT more lenient from my experience. i wrote to them asking what the jumping-jack-f*ck was their download/installer application doing just giving me machine authorizations when I wanted it all on my USB stick. They told me it's no problem to authorize on the stick as well if I want. The system is lenient with that. Their installer has improved but I still don't completely trust it. I authorized my RX 8 install from within the application after just cancelling the authorization in the download/installer app, so that ok to do.
That said, keeping the authorization of Waves plugins on a USB stick has not failed me yet.
What kind of authorization were you guys using ? What other types are there, because I've only been using the USB stick thing for years.
