I think we all know what the most overrated synth of 2020 is now... For me, after 40+ years of playing synthesizers, I know a good sounding synth when I hear one, and that of one which just isn't. You know like the one's, that make your hairs stand on end when you hear it...

Under-rated:
Synthmaster (2.9) and Synthmaster One
SM (2.9) is one fantastic sounding, incredibly versatile beast of a synth. The latest improvements (beta 2.99: new skins, animated controls and waveforms) have considerably improved the workflow.

In 2019 I got a message from QuikQuak, that he is working on Glassviper2 and will be released in 2020. Other plugins were updated, but no info about GV2.ATS wrote: Thu Sep 17, 2020 9:09 am Did anyone mention Glass Viper yet? This is a REALLY good synth to me.

I think Retrologue is underrated, probably because it started out as a Cubase instrument. There is still room for improvement, but still, I am thinking of selling Sylenth1 once I am finished recreating my best Sylenth1 patches in Retrologue. It sounds simply better in my ears.

Vienna Suite by VSL isn't even rated around here, so it's got to be the most underrated thing, and now that it's been replaced as flagship it's only 130 euro. fantastic 'mastering' suite with as good a reverb as exists.
overrated is about other people's opinions, I don't identify like that. But people are gaga about a certain line based in the lexicon reverb, while I never got off on the thing in the first place

SM2 is a great sounding chameleon workhorse...
It's one of my "desert island" soft synths
No auto tune...

I couldnt agree more .. I paid little attention to it and lumped it in with the other stock cubase synths until recently i watched a quick little tutorial on feeding audio to it via sidechain which gives you access to nearly all its features ,filters and the arp which i fricken love on this thing ..Another bonus that really brought it home was that i can run it in FL studio too ! had it for a few months before i even knew that lol . It really could benefit greatly from its own redo/undo history recall section though . i would love to see that implemented .e-crooner wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 4:28 pm I think Retrologue is underrated, probably because it started out as a Cubase instrument. The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

One synth I had written off as a bit of a gimmick until a couple of weeks ago is Olga. I've probably downloaded the demo half-a-dozen times over the years and played around with it a bit, only to decide it's too one-dimensional to be very useful. But a couple of weeks ago I installed it again. This time, I decided to start at the end of the preset list and work my way forward and I discovered a few good, usable presets and a few more that I could turn into something useful with a bit of tweaking. Now, this week, I have been finding uses for it everywhere. It sounds great, it cuts through any mix and it uses bugger-all CPU. I'm so impressed I actually went and paid for it last night, even though I think $80 is a lot more than it's really worth.
