When electronic music sounded new, like the future... what went wrong!

The same thing that goes wrong with every genre. It becomes rote, stale, derivative and boring. Look at what we have now. Nothing new, nothing challenging, and nothing exciting. Unless you're 13 and hearing it for the first time! And that's the hormones, not the music.

I tend to think we need to revive the underground. Nirvana was the point at which the underground went mainstream. People caught on, and wanted to be part of “the crowd”, not realizing the underground was escaping “the crowd”. Delete your presets and start over. I’ll be listening.

You also need to realize that apple and google are eating you alive. As I posted this ^^^ 50 you tubers reposted for clicks. They are collecting you. Making pennies for dollars.

Ha! I put that bitch down two weeks later and let it die. The wife is pissed. We don’t talk about it anymore.

I saw a meme on Instagram recently that went something like "Gen Z: we all want to be famous, but none of us are good at anything." Humor aside, there seems to be a lot of truth in that meme. Seems to me like Gen X was the last generation to really re-envision music (and movies, and television). While we're getting old, dying off, or just leaving the scene, the subsequent generations are living off our creative bread crumbs and spending 75% of their waking moments staring at a computer or phone screen, trying to make the same TikTok videos that a million of their peers have already made so they can get 10K likes, etc.
I have no doubt that there are some young people out there doing some amazing and original things with music and other arts, but trying to find it amidst all the "me-too" offerings spewing out of EVERY young person's phone and computer is becoming nearly impossible. We have an old saying in my profession (aquatic sciences) that "the solution to pollution is dilution." In this case, it's exactly the opposite. The pollution is diluting everything.

i don't think we should force the new, like we need it every couple of years, later r we inevitably end up with banana nailed to wall in d minor.
let it evolve, spring from nowhere or whatever, in its own time.

the funny thing about tik toks is it's a lot of bored parents that made it take off, and the robots are already making the music. but hey, i'm not going to sit hear and tell you i am a jack of all trades. i don't do everything well. there is not enough time to do everything well. some of these drum machines are a lot of fun. i just don't like staring at a computer screen clicking about all day. that part sucks major ass. i can have fun with some of the drum computers on a touch device like an ipad. i just turn off the internet while using it. i'm kind of pissed they took my studio mux away. hopefully they find a way to revive it soon.

In the more distant future, music will make robots.
