You can get PolyMAX for free with a Loopcloud subscription, even with the 14-day trial. No MIDI learn is incomprehensible, though.

But then you'd have a subscription. It reminds me of that old joke about a contest: "First prize is a yugo, second prize is two yugos!"

You cancel the subscription before the 14 days. The synth is not tied to any subscription.

I wish it had an extra LFO and a sub oscillator. It's a bread and butter synth but it does have the UAD roundness to the edges of the sound and can get rather punchy. The resonance of the filter wipes out a lot of the low end in a hurry though -- even very low amounts -- so care is required.

If you're synth geek this is probably boring to you. If you actually write and release music and just need something quick for those bread and butter sounds, it could be rather useful.

This has been my main VA since I bought it. It just sounds so good, and that one-page interface is a joy to use.

I like it, but it’s lacking even features my OB-6 has, which means that PolyMax is positively primitive! Ha.

Sounds good, but adding just a couple more features would catapult it to a top tier synth for me. A modulation slot or three, after touch, divide down (or independent) sub osc, etc. I think Repro walks the line much better in terms of simplicity and power.

Especially since it’s not an emulation of anything specific, it seems a missed opportunity.

It's just too basic for me to use as my primary soft synth. Opal is a better overall synth by UAD, but even more CPU hungry (they could've made Opal a little better, too).

I might be wrong but it seems to me that the analog oscillators in Opal are the same as Polymax, although I think Polymax has different VCA. You can make them sound identical. If you just buy Opal you're missing the unison and one-button voice spread, but you gain an extra oscillator, filter, aux envelope, wavetables, LFO, MSEGs, more effects, and much better modulation options.

Yes, agreed. They both have an amazingly posh, refined sound. I personally don't need what PolyMAX provides but I get the appeal.
