Yes, isn’t that what Jesus said at the Last Supper?
Is REAPER the current best long term choice?

It depends on which DAW you're using. Reaper is the best DAW for this style.FapFilter wrote: Fri May 05, 2023 3:43 pmcompletely agreed!I always hate these types of threads. "Best DAW". "Easiest DAW'. "Most comprehensive DAW". "Daw daw DAW". It only leads to tribalistic responses because everyone thinks their favorite DAW is the best.
so what's the best synth for Death Polka?

I completed about 4 songs in Reaper in the year I spent learning it, one of them done completely in Reaper is a 5/4 piece that somehow has a polka type vibe to it. So I agree.ghettosynth wrote: Fri May 05, 2023 7:48 pmIt depends on which DAW you're using. From what you say it appears that you are at the beginning. When you will made music with 50 tracks you will understand why the features that occupy so much space are not better but to avoid.machinesworking wrote: Thu May 04, 2023 3:44 pm![]()

You really don't know what "moving the goalpost" means do you? You claimed Reaper could do it all etc. it can't, and because a feature is strange to you you find it complicated and it's not, and useless, which it also is not.

And for some of us, that is not a positive feature. I have zero interest to spend my time customizing stuff.jonljacobi wrote: Thu May 04, 2023 12:05 am Though there are a few things you can't completely customize about the look (remove the tool bar altogether, the look of the dialogs, etc.), when it comes to customizing menus (including context menus), keystrokes, mouse actions, etc., nothing can touch Reaper.
Give me a simple, reasonably well designed system and that is sufficient.

In a perfect world... I don't really either. I was about half way through cutting down one menu, when I realized there were a bunch more, and gave up.pdxindy wrote: Sat May 06, 2023 3:22 pmAnd for some of us, that is not a positive feature. Then just stay with the defaults! Easier to follow tutorials that way.pdxindy wrote: Sat May 06, 2023 3:22 pmAnd for some of us, that is not a positive feature. Customizing usually is aimed to stop waisting time.
I thought it would help to get a ProTools skin as I know ProTools well enough. But in the end I went back, even with the shortcuts…

Reaper becomes easy to use after learning how to use it just like you have to learn anything
When it comes to daws Reaper might not look the best, but if you compare the looks to most software that is not a daw Reaper looks just fine. Look at some of the game development software, it all looks boring.
I find that there is something exciting about boring looking software sometimes. Look at all the software for the Atari computers, they all look boring, but there is a whole thread on kvr about how cool old daws are.
And yes Reaper is the best long term daw. It still runs on windows xp and very old Macs.
That said Reaper is not my main daw... I really don't have a main daw. I am fine using Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Bitwig and Logic. I don't really get Cubase and have not bothered much with other Daws not mentioned.

I like reaper, it's as simple or as complex as I need it to be.
Sometimes I get frustrated that a script isn't already baked into Reaper, like cool's MKslicer and sexan's Paranormal FX Router, and that the lack of up-to-date basic features aren't there, like the sequencer, sampler and modulation envelopes. I kind of understand why they aren't.. On the other hand I don't, because they need some love.
I also don't share the same woes as others - that if Justin gets bored / dies, Reaper dies, or gets sold and pimped out for $$$ by a greedy company.. I only speculate, but I'm sure somebody like Justin has a safe guard in place, either by passing it down to Schwa, to his family, or to some company/org that aligns with him, with a contractual agreement to always keep it as 1 fully functioning uncrippled copy at $60 / $225 for 2 major version releases.
tl;dr: no true dark mode sucks and i'm not downloading third party shit to hack windows, so I will suffer for all eternity with megababy as my waifu.
