It seems better to stay off this synth because it triggers so much aggressive comments among forum people.

why do you fault the synth on that? the only agressive comments here are mine, to other people questioning my opinion which i have a right to have. im not bashing people who like the synth. but when i say i dont like it immediately i have 3 people bashing that opinion. thats not fair.martinjuenke wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 9:03 pm It seems better to stay off this synth because it triggers so much aggressive comments among forum people.

I only questioned it because you mentioned the upper harmonics of the saw wave hurting your ears. But after re-reading what you said, it was in comparison to another saw wave. To what source, another saw in Vital or to another synth?
to what source... any other synth
and i can feel the vital fanboyism getting closer, and i never wanted to start a debate just post my opinion but that seems too much for you guys so im out - peace
So it's a fairly odd negative claim, and not helpful as a criticism. Maybe post the two SAW waves -- the 'harsh' one you don't like and the one you're comparing it to.
People who make those types of statements generally double down on the tech they've already dumped time, money, and effort into and find reasons to not like the grass on the other side. Not saying that's what you did, but it certainly gives that vibe.
But you started in right away in this forum with an unprovoked generalized attack. Guy asked if he should buy it if he owned a few other synths -- you said no absolutely not Vital is a free Serum with worse sound then you go "Sorry Fanboys!" when in reality you attacked everyone who likes or plans on purchasing Vital.
You weren't stating an opinion, you were saying anyone else's opinion was moot. I don't care what people like or don't like, but you certainly aren't a victim here.
Have you tried Vital?

What I dislike is this "modern" thin font. I prefer standard thick fonts. I guess tgey can't be skinned?

It's already been discussed earlier in this thread: viewtopic.php?p=7949844#p7949844astralprojection wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:46 pmthats ridiculous. what synth cuts its frequency at 20khz? name me a few since you said "most other synths". or just one. ill go into the daw right now on 192khz, and prove you wrong.Held wrote: Sat Dec 03, 2022 8:41 pm I thought Vital sounded bad without a high-pass filter too until I bought a new audio interface...
The difference between Vital and most other synths is that Vital produces sound up until Nyquist whereas most other synths cut the signal at 20khz, regardless of the sample rate. I had a cheap interface that supports 48kHz, but produces some form of aliasing with signals over 20kHz which made vital sound worse than other synths.
With the new interface, Vital sounds great, even if it goes over 20kHz.
edit: matter of fact here is retrologue playing a saw wave (C3)
goes right up to the max that pro-q3 can handle which is about 25khz (and presumably it goes way higher than that)
I also checked Synthmaster2 and Pigments. But I don't know about "most" other synths. I should have said "most synth I know". I'd be curious to see more of yours. Can you show Serum?

I like the functionality of Vital better than Serum. The modulation system is significantly better. Has 2 filters. Has wavetable interpolation. I find the text to wavetable function useful for choirs and other vocal like sounds.
And for resynthesizing audio into wavetables, I prefer Icarus to Serum anyway. Serum is kinda the odd one out for me.

I have to agree that Vital does indeed sound super harsh in the upper register. Also the Tips already mentioned here can help, like setting OS to 4x or even 8x, higher SR in your Daw and not to forget to set Hi-res Wavetable active. Without those Tweaks, which cause quite some Cpu consumption, Vital is actually a pretty terrible sounding Synth.
