I'm fairly certain this is wrong, but what the hell, at least it's a bump!

However you're sort of on the right track.It is to do with band members.

Two more bands that this would apply to are

New York Dolls and Hanson

Ok another clue

This had to do with a specific member of each band.
ie it's either to do with the vocalists,bassists,guitarists or maybe the drummers of each band.

2 more bands that fit the connection are Badfinger and Dave Matthews Band.

When you said Tremolos Silence is Golden came to mind as it's the only song of theirs I know, and I immediately thought of Syd's song. The others I had no clue, but did remember that Dire-rear had an album called Love Over Gold or something like that.
