I have been beta testing this creature from the start. I think the guts of the synth have been there from the beginning, but it's such a weird complex synthesis technique that John has been bug fixing and just trying to tame the beast that is the Scanned Synth. I keep an old beta (no GUI, crashed every second minute) because it does some really weird fuq'd up shit. Some is scary some is beautiful.

Anyway my point is, John is vigilant and is fixing bugs like a wind. So if you buy into this creative process any issues will be fixed in time. Still, I hope he doesn't fix all the bugs. Those little critters make Scanned Synth a crazy machine.

one question: i still have the latest setup version of ScannedSynth before splitting in MINI and Pro..am i missing something if i install only the mini, in comparison to the old ScannedSynth?
Peace
Mini has a much better sound than the old version but it doesn't offer the same level of control. Basically you can only use randomisation for creating new sounds.

Axioma wrote:firs of all let me say i really like this synth and im a proud owner of a Pro version since couple of months, great job john!

but i must admit unfortunately that i had pritty some issues with it crashing, to be honest i havnt been able to use it in a track yet, cause it keeps freezing my soundcard, im pritty sure its the combination of my system plus the scanned synth, im using it on a lenovo laptop with a edirol ua1ex soundcard in cubase3, havent tried it yet on my main desktop workstation, cause i was trying till now to include it in a tune in the works on my lap.

if that could help the fixing of the problem for future versions i describe what happens: im trying to open it in a project were other 2 synths are playing and it freezes when playing various notes (chords) in some sfx patches or when hittin some buttons like turning on and off the effects. it doesnt freeze the pc, im still able to close cubase and reboot normal way, but it freezes the soundcard wich in this case start to do a very loud buzz noise. didnt had any similar issues with other instruments yet on this system.

if ud like any other details let me know
thanks
Hi. I have just released a new version (1.0.10) that fixes a hanging problem and also improves the efficiency of the synth. Could you let me know if this fixes your problem?

Thanks,

John.

Just wanted to let you all know that there was supposed to be a promotion included in Computer Music magazine (who awarded Scanned Synth Pro an Innovation Award in their latest issue) but I didn't get it to them quickly enough. So when you are purchasing Scanned Synth Pro from the Humanoid Sound Systems site you can enter the promotional code 'COMPUTERMUSIC' and you will get a 20% discount taking the price down from 90 Euros to 72 (about £50).

This promotion will continue until the end of October.

P.S. I also recommend checking out the excellent review in Sound on Sound this month. You can see some quotes on the web site:

I really just wanted to shoehorn everything onto one screen, I don't like multipage guis and there didn't really seem enough controls to justify one imho...
I've been doing some patch designing with Scanned Synth pro this evening and found myself lamenting a single page layout for fast access, so I made a quick derivative of your skin to suit my tastes. Hope you don't mind, and cheers for the initial files to work with. The only thing about my skin is its a little more difficult to read the numeric display that pops up when moving a parameter, but as the font file serves double duty against the dark background, I chose to leave it as it is now.

Here's what I ended up with:

If anyone wants to grab it, here ya go..

[I hate the way KVR scrunches graphic files now, wtf..right click and select 'view image' in Firefox to see full-sized graphic.]

I went ahead and did a little more work on this skin. I redid the entire background and reset all the fonts, etc. There's now more contrast and the pop-up letters are way more easier to read. Even matches my default eXT 1.4 skin that Nicfit made for me back in the day.

Revised contrast file

I've also uploaded the unrendered .psd file with I used in case anyone wants to have a stab at making any more skins:

Cool. Though I thought you'd like the original, had you down as a pastels kinda guy... :hihi:

I really like your second revision, i find the orange labelling easier on the eye.

Does this skin still work with the new 'Pro' version of ScannedSynth? Can anyone try?

Yes, it works, but there's several controllers missing, unfortunately.
